- Oita Usuki-shi Tojinmachi 1 Kumi
- This cafe a 10-minute walk from Usuki Station on the JR Nippo Main Line operates out of a remodeled Meiji period ryokan inn over 120 years old. The cafe displays rare items connected to Meiji period modern literature, including letters from people the original owner, literary enthusiast Ryotaro Hirayama, was connected to through the activities of a literature group he established called the Mihikari-kai, such as poet Takuboku Ishikawa and husband and wife Tekkan and Akiko Yosano. The cafe's sweet Shiratama Cream Zenzai is particularly popular and is crafted with chewy, handmade shiratama rice flour dumplings and azuki beans from Hokkaido.

- This coffee shop, located a one-minute drive from the Saiki Interchange on the Higashikyushu Expressway, operates out of a log house-style building and sells its own in-house roasted beans. In an adjoining roasting hut, the shop roasts JAS-certified organic coffee beans carefully chosen from around the world according to bean variety and production region. The shop's original coffee blend, which has a mild aroma, is particularly recommended. The shop has a cafe, and its pizzas, baked in a handmade pizza oven; and handmade coffee bread are particularly popular. There's a terrace seating area with a view of a beautiful garden where pets are allowed. From mid-May to June, as well as around mid-October, customers can enjoy the sight of the garden's roses.

Oita Areas
A trip to Oita is tantamount to a long soak in the Beppu baths. The mountainous, coastal prefecture of Oita is renowned for having more onsen than any other prefecture in Japan, most of which lie in the city of Beppu on the west coast of Kyushu, recognizable by its pungent sulphuric aroma and the clouds of steam that puff up across the hillside. Away from the Beppu hot springs await mountains, waterfalls, and temples, so don’t hesitate to explore Oita a little further.
