    This retro shopping arcade, located under the elevated Beppu Station, serves as a veritable pantry for the residents of Beppu. The arcade is filled with establishments closely tied to the lives of local residents, including a pharmacy; Japanese confectionary shop; and shops selling vegetables, meats, seafood, and other ingredients, plus Japanese deli-style foods. A collection of good, old-fashioned establishments where customers can enjoy all the charms an old school shopping arcade has to offer, here you'll find the prepared foods are all sold at reasonable prices. The arcade is replete with parking for customers traveling from far away which can be used for free for up to 40 minutes.

    日曜昼過ぎに市場で食べ歩きができるかもと向かいましたが、ほとんど店がやっていなかったです。 すると地元の方に声かけられて、昔は人混みかき分けて買い物したんだけどねと昔話を聞きました。 仕方なく駅横のスーパーで少し買い物をしました。

    A souvenir and gift store standing on the Kokura Kaido Highway in Shinminato-machi, Beppu City. The store sells specialty products, seafood, local sake, and arts and crafts from Oita and throughout Kyushu. The adjoining Take Miraikan museum displays examples of traditional Beppu takezaiku bamboo work. Local dishes are served in the facility’s two restaurants—Take no Restaurant Chikushi and Umibe no Restaurant Shiosai, which boasts a sweeping view of Beppu Bay.

    別府温泉のおみやげが揃っていると、わざわざ駐車料金まで払って買いに行った。880円で買った商品が道の駅で650円で売っていた。約35％高であった。こんなにも高く売るのは消費者として納得し難い。二度と行かない。

    "This butaman steamed pork bun shop was started by a group of local amateur housewives. The shop's original signature ""hell-steamed"" pork buns are cooked using steam venting from a hot spring. The shop also sells buns with shiso leaves which are popular with women; pink pork buns modeled after women's breasts; frozen buns; and butaman gift sets which come with standard butaman buns, shiso buns, and pink buns. The shop also offers a home delivery service at the front of the establishment."

    接客態度がひどい。配送をお願いしたら作業するから向こうで書いてと言われ、購入した豚まんを隅っこに移動させられました。 冷凍豚まんを購入しようとしたが、持ち帰りまでの時間が長かった為なのか何も言わず、冷凍じゃない豚まんだけを渡された。 普通の肉まんと味は一緒、見た目が違うだけですよと言うだけで... きちんとした理由を伝えてくれたらこちらも納得するが、終始冷たい接客でした。 また来たいとは思えません...

    This Japanese confectionary shop primarily sells confections made with sekihan red rice and mochi rice cake. The shop's abundant selection spans everything from staples like ohagi bean jam coated rice cakes, monaka wafer cakes, and three color dango dumplings, to mortar-pounded mochi rice cake and ikinari dango rice cakes. In addition, the shop sells a large number of limited time items such as Amao strawberry daifuku cakes only sold on Saturdays, and springtime sakuramochi rice cakes filled with bean paste wrapped in cherry tree leaves and uguisumochi bean jam-filled rice cake covered with green soy flour. The shop's New Year's okasane and komochi cakes are also popular, and one of the great things about the shop is that it offers customers the tastes of the season.

    This boutique operates out of a renovated, 100-year-old nagaya row house. The colorful artwork on the shop's sliding screens was painted by world famous artist Michael Lin and can be viewed for free. The shop sells hand-picked, original products as well as crafts and works of art by craftspeople and artists with a strong connection to Beppu. Carrying an abundant selection of T-shirts, bags, and earrings, the establishment is a great place to buy souvenirs. The shop also hosts workshops.

    "This soft-serve ice cream shop is located near the Shiraike Jigoku, one of the ""Hells of Beppu"" (visually stunning hot springs which are meant to be viewed rather than bathed in). The shop's signature product is its ice cream made with milk cream and fermenting mash from Mugikura. Other exquisite ice creams customers are recommended to try include the premium fresh cream soft-serve ice cream, and the chunky mango soft-serve ice cream. The shop also sells unusual ice creams you'll find no place else, soft as ice cream covered with a sheet of real gold leaf. In addition, the shop offers a full array of sundaes and drinks."

    This souvenir store makes and sells some 350 products, particularly confections and Japanese tsukemono pickles, such as zabon-zuke pomelo preserved in granulated sugar, a traditional and famous confection from Beppu. The store continues to make its zabon-zuke according to the same recipe and methods as when it first opened. The store's zabon-zuke can also be purchased in places such as the Oita Airport, near the Chinoike Jigoku, and near the Umi Jigoku. In addition, the shop sells peeled pomelos for a limited time each year. You can also purchase small pomelos here which are perfect for adding to a bath. The popular establishment has even been featured on television.

    Interestingly, this gelato shop is open from 3:00 p.m. to midnight. The shop offers around 26 varieties of gelato at any given time. Many of its flavors are only available for a limited time, and one of its biggest draws is the fact that you can discover flavors only offered during that time of year. You can choose either a single scoop or large serving in either a cone or a cup, while double scoops only come in a cone. In addition, there are several flavors which can only be ordered as a single scoop. The shop also sells assortment boxes with several flavors that you can take home with you.

    数年ぶりに来ましたが、空きスペースが増えたかなという印象でした。地下の食品売り場、フードコート、1Fのおんせん市場が賑わっていました。車がメインの地域なのでゆめタウンの方が便利なのかもしれません。駐車場は地上スペースは満車で入庫待ちでしたが、立体駐車場はすぐに入れて時間もかからずに空きスペースも見つかりました。らせんを車で走るのが嫌のか、そもそも低層階利用だからなのでしょうか。全国旅行支援のクーポ...

    歴史資料館、鬼門櫓とまわってからこちらに来ましたが、ここがメインの観光案内所でした。歴史史料館の前に車を置いて来ましたが、こちらに広い駐車場がありました。小規模ながら物産販売があり、カフェ、自転車レンタルなどがありました。町内中心部についてはここに最初に来るのがよいと思いました。

A trip to Oita is tantamount to a long soak in the Beppu baths. The mountainous, coastal prefecture of Oita is renowned for having more onsen than any other prefecture in Japan, most of which lie in the city of Beppu on the west coast of Kyushu, recognizable by its pungent sulphuric aroma and the clouds of steam that puff up across the hillside.
