- An observatory located in Kannawahigashi, Beppu City. Visitors can get a sweeping view of Beppu and Mt. Tsurumi and Ogiyama towering in the distance. Beppu has the highest yield of hot spring in Japan and the sight of hot spring steam blooming from various parts of the city is something truly unique to this place. This observatory’s night view has also been selected for inclusion in a list of Japan’s “Night View Heritages.”

- "A 15-minute drive from the Yufuin Interchange on the Oita Expressway. This observatory is located at the foot of Mt. Yufu and offers a sweeping view of the Yufuin Basin from 680 meters above sea level. Situated between Yufuin and Beppu along the Yamanami Highway (Prefectural Route 11), known as one of the most scenic driving destinations in Kyushu, the observatory has a shop and toilets and thus is also a popular rest stop. Boasting fabulous seasonal views, the observatory's name literally translates to ""mist stand,"" and as this implies, mists gather in the valley below, particularly early in the morning in winter, and during this time visitors can take in the magical sight of the fog-enshrouded basin."

狭霧台展望台にある土産物店です。数人分だけですが、イートイン可能なカウンター席あり。トイレは店外方式。先日そのトイレを借りたので、お返し的にまぐろジャーキーをお買い上げ。土産物の品揃えはそこそこ。

The top of the mountain is accessible by foot from Tsurumi Sanjo Station on the Beppu Ropeway.

Oita Areas
A trip to Oita is tantamount to a long soak in the Beppu baths. The mountainous, coastal prefecture of Oita is renowned for having more onsen than any other prefecture in Japan, most of which lie in the city of Beppu on the west coast of Kyushu, recognizable by its pungent sulphuric aroma and the clouds of steam that puff up across the hillside. Away from the Beppu hot springs await mountains, waterfalls, and temples, so don’t hesitate to explore Oita a little further.
