    This art museum is surrounded by the lush nature of Uenogaoka Kodomo-no-Mori Park. Inside are permanent exhibits of Japanese paintings by artists including Heihachiro Fukuda and Tatsuo Takayama, and early modern Chinese-style paintings of Tanomura Chikuden, works of the Bungo Southern School of Chinese paintings, and other paintings and works relating to Oita City. Events are held throughout the year from exhibition to hands-on-learning. The museum’s restaurant also commands great views of the town.

    A gallery located inside Yufuin Station in Kawakita, Yufuin-cho, Yufu City. Making use of a hall also used as a waiting area inside the Arata Isozaki-designed building, the gallery exhibits paintings, photos, crafts, and other works of art. The station building also has a footbath area.

    Many people sitting there waiting for train at mid-day, and luggages are allowed to leave there, not like a Art Hall at all.

    A museum where visitors can enjoy the amazing and eye-deceiving world of trick 3D art, where flat pictures seem to leap out and different images appear depending on your position. The real fun comes from the exhibits which allow visitors to take pictures and become one with the artwork, such as rooms which use perspective to make a person look taller or shorter, and a flying carpet scene. Dogs which are carried at all times are also allowed in the museum. Closest station; JR Yufuin Station.

    An art museum located on the grounds of the Sanso Murata in Yufuincho Yufu City, Oita Prefecture. The museum collects and displays artworks relating to music and music flows constantly throughout its halls. The stylish, bright white interior design is a must-see. Visitors can freely read some 1,000 books on music and painting in the library on the first and second floors. There is also a chocolate shop and café in the museum where visitors can enjoy a beverage with some chocolate or a slice of cake.

    This art museum, a three-minute walk from JR Hiji Station, is the only one in Kyushu and one of only a few in the country to be dedicated to Nihonga Japanese paintings. The museum displays paintings collected by Nikaido Shuzo YK, known for making the Nikaido brand of Oita barley shochus. The museum's collection of Nihonga paintings spans over 850 pieces dating from the early modern period to the present day. The museum's collection includes works by early modern period Nihonga artists such as Tokyo's Taikan Yokoyama and Gyokudo Kawai, and Kyoto's Shoen Uemura; as well as by artists from Oita prefecture. The museum holds five to six special seasonal exhibitions each year.

    "This mounting studio and gallery, a 40-minute drive from the Oita Airport, operates out of a remodeled three story wooden Japanese home originally built as a sake brewery in the mid-Meiji period. Inside, there is a gallery and studio which mounts items such as kimono and obi belts using folding screens and other frames and mounts. Making use of the building's expansive space, the facility holds exhibitions and displays and sells works of art by artists active in the prefecture and beyond. The facility also holds art gallery crawls in the spring and fall. In the adjoining Sangaiya cafe, you can enjoy an octopus rice meal and an open air ""coffee ceremony."""

    Some 400 years ago, Yufuin is said to have been a paradise for Japan’s hidden Christians. The Yufuin Stained Glass Art Museum opened in 1996 in this town which has carried an air of the West since that time. The first truly dedicated stained glass art museum in Japan, the museum presents European stained glass by time period and region. Located in Coco Village, a highland resort which overlooks the five peaks of Mt. Aso and the Kuju Mountain Range, exhibits include sculptures such as the massive ""Moving Rock;"" and paintings such as the artist's ""Home Towners"" series which depicts Kokonoe and Aso. The museum has a novel design and was planned in collaboration with architect Kenji Murata."

    旧大分県施設を簡易改装してオープンした別府市美術館。展示スペースが会議室にパテーションを取り付けただけという、残念なもの。改装予算がなく、暫定的なものだと思うけれど、絵画や美術品がかわいそうな気がする。まあ、逆に考えると市民の作品を展示したりするには、敷居が高くなくてよいのかな？

    やまなみハイウエイから少し入ったところにあります。何人かの作家の美術館もあり、榎木孝明さんの美術館もありました。館長さんが丁寧に説明をしてくださり。とても楽しめました。 作品が季節ごとにかわるのでまた伺いたいです。

    海外の陶器などのコレクションを展示しています。個人でやっているこじんまりとした もので、有料施設です。アクセスはあまりよくないですが、大、小の美術館が多い湯布院なので色々見て回るのも面白いです。

    悪くはないんだが日田にある押し花を使った珍しい美術館。館内は撮影禁止です。無料ということでお邪魔しました。絵と押し花の絵は見事なコラボレーションでしたが、沢山見るというより売店が主と思いました。

    美術館、ギャラリーなどが多いい湯布院ですが、こちらも小さな美術館といったところです。2階もあり版画などの作品も展示されていて、鮮やかでポップな色紙が並んでいます。

    竹田城の駐車場そして入場券売り場から坂を上って進んでいく途中に有るお土産物屋さんのような建物です。ちょっと変わった館内案内が興味をそそりますがんん---何とも言えず不思議な空間です。きっとオーナーの個人的趣味が反映してるんでしょうね？

A trip to Oita is tantamount to a long soak in the Beppu baths.
