    This coal pit supported Japan’s industrial revolution and today is a registered World Heritage Site. The mine’s solemn brick structures, entrance to the underground areas, and machine room which still houses massive machinery are impressive sights. Visitors can also spend a fun time listening to the experiences of men who actually worked in the mine.

    This store in Nankan Town, Tamana County sells fresh seafood and vegetables, as well as local specialty items. It's run by Shioyama Shokuhin KK that produces Nankanage, a kind of traditional local fried tofu. The store has a variety of sales areas, a restaurant, an udon shop serving handmade noodles, and a bakery. The buffet-style restaurant serves popular sushi rolls made with Nankanage and soy milk soft serve ice cream.

    This tourist spot is in Minamioguni Town, Aso County. Located half-way along the Yamanami Highway connecting Oita Prefecture and Kumamoto Prefecture, it is the largest drive-in facility on the road. Facilities include a restaurant, a shop, a gas station, and a drive-in campground. Their toilet is available 24 hours a day. It's a great spot to stop in for a break while driving.

    "Ichifusa Dam was built in 1960 in Mizukami Village, Kuma County, Kumamoto Prefecture. Yoshino cherries were planted around the dam lake when the dam was built, and today the lakeshore is a renowned destination for viewing cherry blossoms in spring. The area's ""10 thousand"" cherries sprawl along the shore for 14 kilometers, and visitors can appreciate their beautiful blossoms. A cherry blossom festival is also held here during the season, and a portion of the trees are lit up at night to delight visitors."

    This is a natural harbor at the western tip of the Uto Peninsula. It is counted among the three biggest harbors of the Meiji era, with a 756-meter-long stone pier, waterways, and beautiful western architecture. Retaining the same form as it held at the time of construction, it has been designated a National Important Cultural Property and in 2015 a World Cultural Heritage site.

    This popular cherry blossom viewing spot is approximately 20 minutes by car from Tsunagi Interchange. Its rows of cherry trees stretch for five kilometers along the Minamata Cherry Line on the Yunoko Coast. The area gets packed with visitors who come to see the blossoms of its nearly 300 Yoshino cherry trees when they're in full bloom from late March to early April. The Yunoko Onsen Sakura Festival takes place during this period, when they run 30-minute rides on a flower-viewing tour boat (reservations required), festival stalls spring up along the road selling fare like sweet dango dumplings, and visitors sip sakura-cha, tea laced with cherry petals.

    Aso Gogaku refers to the five main peaks that make up Mt. Aso: Mt. Taka, Mt. Naka, Mt. Neko, Mt. Eboshi, and Mt. Kishima. They formed within Mt. Aso's caldera, which developed from repeated volcanic activity. Aso Daikanbo is the highest point along the crater's outer rim, a natural lookout with a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. Currently only Mt. Naka is active.

    Three slopes lead to this historical park is in Ueki-machi, Kita Ward, Kumamoto City. At the top you'll find the Tabaruzaka Seinan Civil War Museum, the Matsushita family’s warehouse restored as a Dankon-no-Ie (house of bullet marks), and the historical stone monument called Tabaruzaka Suretsuhi. You can take in the seasonal cherry blossoms and azaleas from an observation deck overlooking the park.

    The Mae and Yamada districts of Yamae Village are a 15-minute drive from the Hitoyoshi Interchange on the Kyushu Expressway; encircled by lush natural beauty, they are a famous destination for firefly watching. Fireflies can particularly be seen when in season flying everywhere near the section of the pure Mae River close to the Yamae Onsen Health Center. In most years, fireflies can be seen from mid- to late May. The exact period the fireflies can be seen differs upstream and downstream, making it possible to see fireflies in the area for a relatively long period of time. Thanks to its location close to the Yamae Onsen Health Center bathhouse, you can also enjoy a relaxing hot spring soak until the fireflies start coming out.

    Jusanbustu Park at the tip of the cape is a superb viewpoint overlooking Myokenura Coast to the north and Shiratsuru Beach to the south. Selected as one of the Japan Sunset Best 100, it's a well-known spot for watching Shiratsuru Beach turn red as the sun goes down. The name comes from the Jusanbutsu Temple with ties to the Jusanbutsu ceremonies popularized during the Muromachi period. The park also has a monument engraved with tanka poems by Takkan Yosano and his wife Akiko.

    以前、シニアネットの仲間と一緒に見学に行きました。 その頃には、ビアレストランまでオープンしていておいしいビールは 3杯まで試飲がOK!という夢のようなイベントが-。 現在のコロナ対策で工場見学はお休みになっていますが、どうか、 一日でも早く復興をして、徐々に回復してきたらまだぜひ見学に行きたい候補がサントリーです。 また広い玄関前の庭には、色とりどりの花が咲いていました。とてもいいところでした。

    ドライブ途中で立ち寄りました。ちょっとした道の駅より品揃えの多い直売所でした。食事処もありました。店にはいったところに巨大スイカを置いていました。3号線沿いだと思うので、前にも車で通ったことがあると思うのですが、気がつきませんでした。立ちより場所がひとつできました。

    旅館で飲んだ焼酎がおいしくて近くで購入できるところはないか聞いたところ、ここを紹介されました。残念ながら希望の品はなかったのですが、それなりにあります。竹製品があり、地元で作ってある(日本製)のにかなり安かったので、かごを購入しました。ゆべしや豆腐のもろみ漬けなどの加工食品も揃っています。

    こちらは普通の小さな物産館ですが、地元産に拘った蕎麦をメインにした食事処があります。 地元新聞に熊本県知事も太鼓判と言う様な記事を見て訪れましたが、蕎麦の美味しさは勿論、別売りのおにぎりの美味しさに驚きました。 以来、熊本市内の拙宅から1時間30分程度掛けて時々訪れています。 蕎麦の味は人夫々の評価があるかも知れませんが、お米の味は絶対にお勧めです。 私は毎回、食後にもおにぎりをテイクアウトします...
