An aquarium located in Kashimaecho. Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture which focuses on presenting exhibits which recreate the diverse marine ecosystem of the Kujuku Islands. The Kujukushima Bay Grand Aquarium exhibit, home to some 13,000 individual marine creatures spread across 120 species illuminated by glittering sunlight, is the facility’s crown jewel. Some of the aquarium’s highlights include the soothing Jellyfish Symphony Dome in which jellyfish slowly float amidst phantasmal lights, and shows which show the fantastical abilities of the park’s dolphins. Of the 18 species of penguins living on planet Earth, this aquarium keeps half, totaling 9 species and roughly 170 individual penguins. From docile and large king penguins to inquisitive gentoo penguins, here visitors can see a variety of unique and distinctive penguins all in one location. A popular destination for people of all ages, the aquarium also has a biotope recreating the rural mountain and forest scenery of Nagasaki where visitors can see seasonal plants and animals.

"The aquarium is located in ""Isahaya Yuyu Land Reclamation Village"" and exhibits aquarium creatures living in the Honmyo River, which moistens rice paddies in the reclaimed land, and the Ariake Sea into which the river water pours. At the end of the slope is a 5-meter-diameter tidal flat tank, one of the largest in Japan, where visitors can observe tidal flat creatures such as mudskippers and flying gobies."

Nagasaki Areas

This hidden corner of the country is rural Japan at its best, where underground activity is to thank for active volcanoes and bubbling natural hot springs along the Shimabara Peninsula as well as the crystal clear waters of the Goto Islands off the west coast. Less well known than Hiroshima’s Peace Memorial Park, Nagasaki commemorates its own past at the Nagasaki Peace Park, which sits alongside the charming Meganebashi stone bridge and a mix of religious buildings with beautiful architecture, such as the Zen Buddhist Sofukuji Temple, the Confucian Shrine, and the Oura Christian Church.
