"The baked sweet ""Hikicha Furian"", which has been presented to the imperial family, is famous both in name and reality. 20 years in the making, it has the symbol of Ureshino branded in the center of the fluffy dough, crispy on the edges and soft inside."

Saga Nishimatsuura-gun Aritacho Maruo Hei 1933-1
A Western-style sweet shop started by a pastry chef who was enchanted by Arita. This is the only French confectionery shop in a town that's known for its grilled food. The shop is dedicated to using local ingredients, and their original cake with fresh ingredients is popular. Fine items that come recommended include their Arita Baked Custard and Arita Ware Cake, Western sweets in hand painted Arita ware containers.

Saga Areas

around-area-map

Away from the fast-paced cities of mainland Japan, Kyushu’s Saga prefecture offers quaint towns and cities known for their traditional crafts, particularly ceramics. Rich in kaolin (a type of clay), Saga became the homeland of Arita ware, a delicate, decorative porcelain that is now celebrated worldwide and can be discovered in the towns of Arita, Imari, and Karatsu.
