Fukuoka Asakura Haki Shiwa Haki Kugumiya
A hot spring district situated on the border between Fukuoka Prefecture and Oita Prefecture. Harazuru means Plain Crane, and according to legend this area was developed into a hot spring resort when it was found that the waters of a puddle being used by an injured crane to heal itself were in fact from a hot spring source. The district's picturesque location commands a view of the Chikugo River, the largest river in the Kyushu region; meanwhile, area flower gardens present different, highly seasonal scenery for visitors to enjoy. After the torrential rains and heavy flooding which affected the northern Kyushu area in 2017, the bathhouses and hot spring inns here opened their doors to all comers for free, an act which resulted in the area being granted a special award in the Onsen Sosenkyo 2017, a project designed to revitalize communities by having people vote for their favorite hot spring locations. The area's mildly alkaline simple springs and simple sulfur springs are said to enhance the beauty of the skin and aid in the removal of dead skin layers, gaining this district the nickname the Double Skin Beautifying Hot Spring.

Located on the northern bank of Chikugo river, Harazuru Onsen is one of the well known thermal resorts in Fukuoka. Once it was quite prosperous, but now it is somewhat deserted. Visitors can take a...
