    "Located approximately 25 minutes from the Maebaru Interchange on the Nishi-Kyushu Expressway, it has been selected of one of the Japan's 100 Best Beaches, and is one of the scenic spots representative of Itoshima City. It is also a scenic spot to see sunsets at the Genkai Pass, which has been selected as having one of the Japan Sunset Best 100, and it is also called ""Yuhi no Futamigaura"" (sunset Futamigaura) in contrast to ""Asahi no Ise Futamigaura"" (sunrise Ise Futamigaura). It is famous for the ""Meoto Iwa"" (Wedded Rocks,) which rise about 150 meters off the coast with a white torii gate, and you can see the sunset between the two rocks on the summer solstice. The large sacred Shinto straw festoons between the rocks are replaced every May during the spring tide."

    A road in Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Known as the ''Little Kyoto of Fukuoka,'' this former castle town area is surrounded by mountains and pure streams. Extending out from the Akizuki Castle Ruins, the road is lined with some 200 cherry trees on either side which form a gorgeous 500-meter-long tunnel of blossoms in spring, making the area a top cherry blossom viewing destination. The Akizuki Spring Festival is also held here in April. At night, the area is lit up with electric lights, giving visitors the chance to enjoy a magical landscape quite different from that of the daytime.

    秋月エリアの観光スポットのうちのひとつです。今回は紅葉の時期に訪れましたが説明パネルに桜の時期がきれい、といったことが書かれており、春には春でまた違う景色を見ることができるんだろうなと思いました。桜の並木道です。

    An unusual serial water wheel situated along a canal reservoir supplied by the Chikugo River. Consisting of three waterwheels in line with each other, the system is still operation even today. The largest of the three is 4.8 meters tall. The waterwheels are made of quality pine, bamboo, evergreen oak, and cedar wood. Visitors can see the wheels in action during the rice planting periods in mid-June and early October. During the midterm drying period from late July to early August, the wheels are stopped. During the Obon holidays, the wheels are lit up at night, creating a magical scene for visitors to enjoy.

  • Kurogi no Ofuji

    A massive wisteria plant said to have been planted by the hands of Naganari-shinno (Imperial prince) and located on a historic site in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Some 620 years old, the plant has been designated a National Natural Monument. The Yame Kurogi Ofuji Matsuri (Wisteria Festival) is held here when the flowers are in bloom each year in April, attracting large numbers of visitors.

  • Mural of the Battle of Dannoura between the Minamoto and Taira Clans

    A mural located within Mekari Park. The mural depicts the Battle of Dannoura, a battle that occurred in 1185 between the Minamoto clan and the Taira clan across the strait on the opposite shore. It stands three-meters tall and 44-meters long and is made with Arita-ware ceramic tiles. From the park you can look out across the Kanmon Strait and the island of Honshu.

    The location of Kirin Beer's Fukuoka plant, where visitors can take a tour of this factory and learn about the wonders and secrets of beer. After the plant tour, visitors can sample freshly made beer and soft drinks. The facility also has a restaurant patterned after a south German farm and a flower garden where, in the fall, visitors can enjoy the spectacular sight of some 10 million cosmos flowers blooming.

    Located approximately 15 minutes or four kilometers away from the Kurume-Minami Interchange on the Kyushu Expressway via Prefectural Route 61, this is the most famous spot for plum blossoms in the Kitakyushu area, where about 350 red and white plum blossoms bloom throughout the site that is about one hectare. Starting from plum trees planted on land that was the tea garden of Goshoji Temple in commemoration of Emperor Showa, it was leased by Kitakyushu City and opened in 1979. In the flowering season from late February to mid-March, there are stalls selling handmade agricultural products. The Mitake Bairin Plum Festival is held every Sunday in late February, and it is crowded with many people.

    Okagaki Town in Onga County is home to rich natural environment with clean air and is a known habitat for fireflies. You can see the fireflies flitting about the waterside at night in various locations around town from mid-May to mid-June. During this season the town holds the Firefly Festival.

    "A shrine in the Miyanojin region of Kurume City. The ""Shogunbai"" plum tree planted on the grounds of the shrine is said to have been hand planted by Prince Kanenaga who served as the head of the Office of the Subjugation of the West during the Nanbokucho period (1336-1392). It is the largest plum tree in the city. The best time to visit is usually mid-March."

    Giant cedar trees located in the Shukudaira National Forest. There are over 300 cedars more than 200 years old surrounding the Gyoja-do Hall in which En-no-Gyoja, founder of Shugendo mountain asceticism, is enshrined. They are called Gyoja Cedars as they were planted by the practitioners of Shugendo. Amongst them the Daiou-Sugi (Great King Cedar) stands over 50-meter tall and is estimated to be 600 years old.

    A temple in the Miyano district, Asakura City. The temple was founded in 806 CE by the monk Saicho, founder of the Tendai Sect of Buddhism. The temple's principle object of worship, a seated statue of the Yakushi Nyorai Buddha, is said to have been carved by Saicho and is a designated Important Cultural Property of Japan. From late March to early April the weeping cherry trees in front of the main hall come into bloom.

    A well-known plum grove in the Tanigawa area of Tachibana-machi, Yame City. Almost 30,000 white plum trees are spread out over a hillside grove covering nearly 80 hectares and the best time to catch them in bloom is from mid to late February. The Yume Tachibana Plum Viewing Event is held in concert with the blooming season. Also, worth visiting is the Bamboo Lantern Illusionary World in which a wine cellar near the plum grove that was used as a wartime hangar is illuminated and opened to the public.

    A park in Rakuichi, Iizuka City. The park covers Mt. Taishojinyama which is said to be where Minamoto no Michinaka assembled his forces when he was given the imperial order to suppress the rebellion of Fujiwara no Sumitomo in 941. The Taishojin Star Dome observatory is located on the peak of the mountain. The park is also a well-known location for sakura cherry blossom viewing being home to nearly 2500 Yoshino Cherry trees. While the trees are in bloom the park hosts the Taishojin Cherry Blossom Festival.

Between late February and March nearly 1500 plum trees come into bloom.
