This public City Museum is near both Fukuoka Tower and the Fukuoka Dome. On display are historical materials that are closely related to both Fukuoka and Hakata. The King of Na gold seal, a National Treasure of Japan, made from real gold, is continuously on display inside of a case. There are numerous masterpieces on display that were donated by the Kuroda Family, former Lords of Fukuoka Domain, including a famous spear, the Nippon-Go, and numerous legendary swords.

A museum dedicated to railway history located close to JR Mojiko Station. Inside, visitors can climb aboard actual trains used from the Meiji period onward. The museum also has interactive exhibits that give participants a taste of what travel was once like during various periods of railroad history in Japan. The realistic model railroad presenting a panorama of railways in Kyushu and the museum’s simulator, which lets users experience what it is like to drive an 811 series train, are particularly popular. The Train Exhibition Hall displays nine historic trains which operated in Kyushu. Visitors can also try driving a miniature train outside the museum.

Based on the concept of “evolution of life” this museum displays the progression of the evolution of life and the history of humans. There is much to see including a “kid’s museum” aimed at children of elementary school age and older with displays they can touch and learn about nature and history, and a Time-Travelling Room in which animatronic dinosaurs move inside a diorama. This is a museum that can be enjoyed by many generations.

When I first visited the Museum in 2018, I was blown away by the Dinosaur exhibits. My biggest regret was that I could only spend an hour at the museum before heading to Kitakyushu Airport to catch...

Come learn about the good-old days of life in Hakata at this tourist attraction. The exhibition hall, Machiya Hall, and souvenir shop are all connected, and the Machiya Hall was originally built in the mid-Meiji period (late 1800s) before it was moved and reconstructed in its current location. You can also see a demonstration of how Hakata fabric was traditionally woven. Under the guidance of experienced craftsmen, you can try your hand at painting ceramics (fee required) or Hakata fabric weaving yourself. It's just a five-minute walk from Gion Station.

Here at the TOTO Museum you can learn about the roots and history of TOTO Ltd. who played a role in Japan's modernization. Along with the culture and history surrounding plumbing from their founding to the present day you can see their thoughts behind the creation and evolution of their products. There are almost 1,000 displays to see and along with goods on display including toilets, baths, faucets, and Japan's first unit bathroom (according to JIS regulations), there is also a toilet for sumo wrestlers that you can actually sit on to compare the size and new products that are only sold overseas.

What a great museum the Toto Museum was. I traveled to Kitakyushu mainly to visit this museum and it was the highlight of my weekend trip. I walked here from the train station, it was a bit far but...

A historical site and museum located in Maizuru Park in Jonai, Chuo, Fukuoka. The ruins are of the Korokan guest house built during the Heian period and used for nearly 400 years to receive diplomatic visitors from China and Korea. In the museum exhibits cover materials excavated from the site and show the history of continental diplomacy.

A national museum located in Dazaifu City commonly known as the “Kyuhaku” to locals. The museum displays numerous historically momentous articles such as an ink painting by the famed Kano Masanobu, a designated National Treasure, and the original manuscript of the ancient epic Eiga Monogatari. The museum’s rounded 160 meter by 80 meter building is large enough to fit an entire international regulation soccer field, making it best to schedule plenty of time for one’s visit. In addition to their standard exhibition rooms they also have a variety of facilities allowing you to experience science as you learn about it including project exhibitions, a planetarium, laboratories, workshops, and more. Exhibit areas are divided into themes including Space, Science Fundamentals, Exciting Labs, Robotics and Science Techniques, Nature and the Environment, and Cutting-Edge Science. 八女茶でもお土産に買おうかと思い立ち寄ってみたのですが思った以上に長居しましたしずく茶と言う八女の特有飲み方を喫茶でさせてもらったのですが、とても良い体験になりました自宅にしずく茶専用のお椀を買って帰った程です体験コーナーも抹茶を石臼で挽く体験やほうじ茶を作るような体験があったようですが時間が合わずできませんでした次回は行ってみたいです

福岡市から車で30分。素晴らしい博物館です。展示物の凄さ。卑弥呼時代前後の歴史的に貴重な物は圧巻です。あまり知られていないがとにかく貴重なもばかりです。入館料も安く、入場者も少ないののでゆっくり観覧できます。歴史好きな方おすすめ！

Coal helped support the modernization of Japan. And the Miike Coal Mine was the largest such mine in the nation. The Omuta Coal Industry and Science Museum was opened to share the history of the Miike Coal Mine with future generations and contains detailed exhibits which make use photos, videos, and tools actually used in the mine. Particularly noteworthy is the museum’s Dynamic Tunnel. Recreating a mining tunnel 400 meters below the surface, here visitors can view equipment such as a mining cutter and electric mining train to get a feel for the incredible work which once was conducted here. Designed as a facility enjoyable by both adults and children, there is also an area where visitors can play and experiment with various forms of energy.

A pottery museum in Koishiwara, Toho, Asakura. On display are examples of traditional Koishiwarayaki Pottery, a style with an almost 400-year history reaching back to the Edo period, including classic works and modern pieces. There's also a pottery school with a climbing kiln that offers pottery experience workshops which will allow you to throw and paint your own ceramic pieces.

小石原焼秀山ブルーを求めて博多からクルマで６０分杷木インターで下りて20分ほど走るとたどり着く感じてす。50ほど窯かありその一つが秀山窯です。キレイなお家で駐車場もあり訪れた日は上手く開いていました。秀山ブルーの数々を拝見できて良かった。表札作成と丸カップ作成をお願いしました。

The stone chambers of the Ozuka Burial Mound and models of items excavated from the mound are reproduced in full size and you can learn a basic summary of the mound and the history of its construction. The model also serves as an introduction to the style of burial mound known as the Decorative Burial Mound, of which the Ozuka Burial Mound is a perfect representation. The museum also holds temporary exhibitions and special themed exhibitions.

A museum in Noko, Nishi Ward, Fukuoka City. Exhibits include materials related to the Chikuzen Gokaura Cargo Ships which were based out of Hakata Bay and delivered goods throughout the country during the Edo period as well as Edo period Confucian scholar and Meinohama native Nanmei Kamei. The museum also features a diorama with an overhead view of Nokonoshima Island and Hakata Bay and other exhibits. From the museum's location atop a hill on Nokonoshima Island you can enjoy a great view looking out over Hakata Bay.

能古島に行かれた場合は立ち寄ってみてもいい場所だと思います。これだけのために行く必要は無いけれど、島で時間をつぶすにはちょうど良い場所です。この島自体、季節によって雰囲気はかわるけれど何度も行くような場所ではないかと思います。

A museum dedicated to literature located a 10-minute walk from JR Nishi-Kokura Station. The museum contains exhibits on numerous writers from the Kitakyushu area such as Ogai Mori and Fumiko Hayashi. The facility also regularly holds workshops, lectures, and other events. The museum sees not only many local visitors but literature fans from far and wide as well.

北九州市立文学館に行ってみました。昔は北九州市立歴史博物館であったように思いますが、その頃は何回か訪れたことがあります。ステンドグラスがとても綺麗でした。北九州市内出身、謂れのある作家さんの多さに驚かされます。ミュージアムショップには今はなかなか入手出来ない作家さんの作品も入手出来ます。私は森鴎外の小倉日記などを購入しました。

The treasure house stores and displays some 50 thousand items, including a sword once worn by Sugawara no Michizane; ancient manuscripts such as the Kan’en, a National Treasure; and artistic works. The history of the Dazaifu Tenmangu shrine as well as that of the nationwide Sugawara no Michizane faith is presented via video. Entrance fee required. A shared ticket granting entry to the Kyushu National Museum is also available.
