- A confectionery with 80-years of history. Using the traditional sweet-making methods they've used since their founding, they create confections with carefully selected Hokkaido azuki beans, dough ingredients, and pure Shimanto River water. Their signature item is Ikada Yokan, a highly popular sweet bean jelly that got its start as a seasonal tradition in Nakamura, recalling the days of ikada rafts carrying timber along the Shimanto River.

- This piping-hot bread shop is in Tenjin Town, Tosashimizu City, Kochi Prefecture. Their Japanese confections, birthday cakes, and gift-ready rolled cakes are popular, and in winter their standard Imo Mochi is so popular that people reserve it in advance. This habit-forming treat combines sweet potatoes with glutinous rice flour. We recommend cutting it into one centimeter squares and lightly toasting it.

Kochi Areas
The largest of Shikoku’s prefectures, Kochi is endowed with some of the island’s most exceptional sand beaches lining the Pacific Ocean, which narrows into the Shimanto-gawa, a huge river that stretches 196 kilometers into the prefecture, passing verdant mountains and hosting countless riverside activities. Whether you’re a pilgrim or not, Kochi’s 16 Buddhist temples that make up one leg of the Shikoku Pilgrimage are worth a visit, particularly Chikurin-ji for its five-tier pagoda.
