It offers a number of Tosa-themed sweets including their Tosa Nikki, which feature strained adzuki bean paste wrapped in soft rice cake, their “Ryoma ga yuku”, a milk-based sweet made with lots of milk, and their “Tosa JIROLL”, roll cakes made with eggs from Kochi’s “Tosa Jiro” local chicken breed.

- 30 meters from Chiyoricho-1-chome Station, this confectioner has been dealing in traditional Kochi sweets since 1688. A simple dried confection, kenpi is a traditional sweet inspired by bran and the shirakami-somen given by a purveyor of the Yamauchi clan lord. Also, traditional pickled plums, and new brands of sweets reminiscent of Sakamoto Ryoma and Yamauchi Kazutoyo (who have connections to Tosa), would make great gifts or souvenirs. Other popular items include “Tosa sweet” —a bouchee made with Tosa ingredients—and goat-milk pudding, made with lots of goat milk.

- Kochi Kochi-shi Harimayacho 1-1-1
- This renowned Tosa confectioner sells about 3.5 million sweets per year and has been popular since its founding in 1962. Their yosakoibushi themed sweets are Kochi's best-known souvenir. In summer, chill them in the refrigerator for an hour or two, and in winter, remove them from their paper bag and warm them wrapped in foil in a toaster oven for 5.6 minutes to make them even tastier.

- Kochi Kochi-shi Obiyamachi 1-7-16
- A shop founded in 1953 that makes and sells Japanese sweets. Their Miyakoman sweets, created the same year the Yosakoi Festival began, are famous. The preservative-free manju buns are made from shiroan bean jam, wheat flour, sugar, eggs, and honey; they are baked with the bean jam wrapped in the dough. They're also a popular snack for everyone from kids to adults. These simple, mild flavored treats make great gifts.

Kochi Areas
The largest of Shikoku’s prefectures, Kochi is endowed with some of the island’s most exceptional sand beaches lining the Pacific Ocean, which narrows into the Shimanto-gawa, a huge river that stretches 196 kilometers into the prefecture, passing verdant mountains and hosting countless riverside activities. Whether you’re a pilgrim or not, Kochi’s 16 Buddhist temples that make up one leg of the Shikoku Pilgrimage are worth a visit, particularly Chikurin-ji for its five-tier pagoda.
