    The Kochi Yosakoi Joho Koryukan is a museum that showcases the history and appeal of the Yosakoi Festival, which was founded in 1954. There is a “Yosakoi Theatre” with a 150-inch large-screen display showing how the Yosakoi Festival has developed over time, which really makes visitors feel as though they are watching the Festival in real life, along with a “Yosakoi Experience Corner” where visitors can try on the costumes worn by Yosakoi Festival dancers. Both adults and children will enjoy a visit here.

    Kochi Literary Museum sits proudly at the foot of the hill on which Kochi Castle is situated. The displays, which are arranged both chronologically and by theme, include materials relating to, and works by, approximately 40 authors and literati with links to the Kochi area, ranging from Kino Tsurayuki—the author of the Tosa Nikki (“Tosa Diary”), which is the earliest surviving literary diary written in Japanese—to modern authors such as Hiro Arikawa. The Kochi Literary Museum has adopted a unique approach to its permanent exhibitions, holding rotating exhibitions that feature both authors whose anniversaries are being commemorated, and exhibitions on authors who have recently become a focus of interest. Every visit to the Museum is sure to provide an opportunity to learn something new about literature. Kochi Literary Museum also has a special commemorative room dedicated to the physicist and essayist Terada Torahiko, who was born in Kochi, and a special exhibition on the world portrayed in the literary works of Miyao Tomiko, with displays of manuscripts, letters, pictures and other important materials.

    高知城の城郭の周辺には今工事中の県立図書館や歴史博物館がありますが、外壁が石張りの重厚な建物が、高知県ゆかりの作家や作品を紹介する文学館になっていました。 古くは土佐日記の紀貫之や、近代では、司馬遼太郎、大岡昇平、井伏鱒二、高浜虚子など読書家には必見の文学館です。

    This history museum is located in Okocho-yahata, Nankoku City. The Chosokabe Hall features exhibits related to the adjacent Oko Castle Ruins, a national Historic Site, as well as to the Chosokabe Clan, the warlords of the Tosa domain. The General Exhibit Hall covers the history and culture of Kochi from primeval times to the modern period. Its permanent exhibits include a recreation of the stronghold of Chosokabe forces during the Battle of Awa-Nakatomigawa, Odo-yaki ware fired in the kilns of the Tosa Domain during the Edo Period, and more. The museum also hosts special exhibitions on the history and folk customs of Tosa, museum talk shows, workshops, and other events.

    空港へ向かう途中に少し時間があったので立ち寄りました。JAFの割引対象になっていました。駐車場は前にあり2Fが入り口になっており駐車場からは階段、スロープとエレベーターが設置されていました。展示は長曾我部氏などの山内氏以前時代が中心で古い時代からの高知県の歴史は参考になりました。途中の坂道が桜並木になっていて桜を見に来ている家族づれがいました。

    This is a base facility for the Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark. You should come here first when you visit the Geopark for the visitor center and information center. The Muroto UNESCO Global Geopark is introduced on a large screen at the Geo Theater using high resolution images. They also introduce goods and various hands-on programs.

    室戸岬自体はあまり観光地化されて織らず、拍子抜けしてしまいますが、周囲を見てみると興味深いところです。 室戸ユネスコ世界ジオパークセンターで地形地質の説明を見ることができます。 室戸岬は隆起しています。そのため、この地にある空海が修行したという御厨人窟(みくろど)もかつては波打ち際にあったのではないかということです。 そして、地震がある度に隆起して港が浅くなってしまい、大変なようです。 また、この...

    This museum is located in Kashiwagi, Kitagawa Village, Aki County. It features exhibits related to Nakaoka Shintaro, a samurai who played a major role in the Satsuma-Choshu Alliance alongside Sakamoto Ryoma. These exhibits include videos and panels on the life of Nakaoka as well as valuable historical artifacts. The museum also holds special exhibits about the Bakumatsu, the final years of the Edo period.

    こんな片田舎に凛々しくたたずむ立派な資料館。幕末の志士として坂本龍馬が有名ですが、中岡慎太郎の生い立ちや業績を知れば知るほど彼がいてこその坂本龍馬だと知ることができました。

    This history museum is located in Yoro, Tosashimizu City. It features exhibits about Nakahama Manjiro, also known as John Mung, a Tosa native known for being one of the first Japanese people to visit the United States. In addition to learning about the life of Nakahama from exhibits that utilize wall graphics and projections, visitors can also enjoy a number of other attractions including taking photos with trick art depicting the sea. The museum also features the restaurant Kaifu Shokudo.

    幕末のアメリカと日本の歴史、ジョン万次郎の波乱万丈の人生を時系列の展示でよくわかります。ゆったり回れて、駐車場も広くてのんびり楽しめます。

    Former residence of the Teshimas, a Tosa Domain samurai family. It is the only structure in the old castle town retaining the architectural style typical of samurai dwellings. It was restored and designated as a Kochi City Tangible Cultural Property in 1996, and opened to the public as the Samurai House Museum in November of the same year. In addition to visiting the residence, one large parlor and one small parlor in the main house are available for rent.

    大川筋武家屋敷資料館は、土佐藩の武士、旧寺嶋家の住宅でした。典型的な書院造りの主家と長屋門を忠実に復元しており,細部の金具や瓦など必見です。今では、城下で当時の武家の建築様式を残している唯一の建造物となっています。

    This history and culture museum is located inside Tamematsu Park in Nakamura, Shimanto City. It is located at the ruins of Nakamura Castle, the castle of Yamauchi Yasutoyo, the younger brother of Yamauchi Kazutoyo, the lord of Tosa. It features exhibits related to the history and culture of the area along the Shimanto River, as well as ancient manuscripts, artwork, and more. The castle tower portion of the museum’s building, which is designed to look like a castle, features an observation deck with a sweeping view of the city.

    車で坂を上り、さらに車を駐めて短い山道を登るとあります。 1Fは四万十の暮らし、歴史、自然環境。2Fは歴史。3Fは企画展示で訪問した際は学制150年の学校に関する展示でした。6Fは展望台になっていて、街が見渡せます。

    This facility is mainly dedicated to Mitsuaki Tanaka's calligraphy collection from the late Edo and Meiji periods. It contains the work of Takechi Hanpeita, Sakamoto Ryoma, Nakaoka Shintaro, and other leading figures. There are also items from people tied to the shogunate, Imperial court, and major domains like Mito, Choshu, and Satsuma. They change the material on display about four times a year while holding various planned and special exhibits.

    This little town is well worth a visit, perhaps from Kochi. It has a genuine old quarter with beautiful shops and cafes in the old houses, meaning you can explore indoors. And pleasant mountain...

    This gallery located in Utsuigawa, Shimanto Town, Takaoka County displays works entered into a kappa (a mythical river creature) figure modeling contest organized by the figure manufacturer Kaiyodo. A sister facility, Kaiyodo Hobby Museum Shimanto, is located about two kilometers away on the side of Prefectural Route 55.

    こんなにカッパに出会ったのは初めてです。 カッパを知らない日本人はなかなかいないと思いますが、改めてカッパってこうだよな〜と認識出来ました。 造形の種類も見ていて面白いし、常時600体以上展示されているようで見応えたっぷりです。 公共交通を使って行きましたが、海洋堂さんが送迎してくれたのでなんとか辿り着けました。

    A museum located at the site of Aki Castle. The Goto family—senior Tosa domain officials during the Warring States period—once lived there. It houses documents related to the Goto family, a valuable resource for understanding the Tosa domain during the feudal era. There is also a collection of arts and crafts, weapons, and folk implements connected to the local area. The permanent exhibition showcases important people with Aki ties, such as the founder of the Mitsubishi Group, Yataro Iwasaki. Archaeological artifacts excavated within the city limits and old documents are also on display, making it easy to get an overview of Aki's history. Special exhibits, such as of dolls from the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa periods, are held two or three times a year.

    Great place to learn a bit about the history of Aki City (and Kochi Prefecture). They have a basic guide available in English.

    This theme park located in Otani, Noichi-cho, Konan City features a number of museums and galleries. The Ryoma History Museum and the World Celebrity Museum display realistic wax figures. There are also galleries featuring the works of artists such as the late Edo period painter Ekin (Hirose Kinzo) as well as Francis Kwatei Nee-Owoo, an artist from Ghana. Other facilities include the World Model Car Museum, the World Classic Car Museum, and the Bonnet bus Museum.

    This is one of my recommended places in kochi. You can enjoy some museums in one place. It’s open from morning till night!

    A literature museum showcasing the life and work of Tomie Ohara. In addition to displays of valuable items like drafts of manuscripts, they put a spotlight on her masterpiece “Woman Called En”-, illuminating Tomie Ohara’s world. The Anrian Tearoom expresses her spirit and is open to the public.

    本山城跡に行った後に都合により寄りましたが失礼ながら誰かも知りませんでした。正直採算が非常に気になりました。

    A tourist information center located in central Aki. Promoting eastern Kochi prefecture and Aki in particular, they provide information on the latest events and places to visit. Opened in conjunction with the Shikoku Kochi Ryoma Furusato Expo, it has an area providing lots of information on the founder of the Mitsubishi Group, Yataro Iwasaki. With genealogical charts including a family tree and a chart showing ties to the Ryomas on display, you can get a sense of his life and the turbulent times he lived in. The center also sells souvenirs and lends out bikes for free, making it a perfect stop for exploring Aki.

    竜馬パスポートの青色から赤色への変更手続きができる施設と 案内があったので、利用させていただきました。 国道沿いの広い駐車スペースのある施設で便利でした。 施設内には、各種のパンフレット類も豊富に置いていて 良かったです。 お土産類もありますが、これは普通かも。

    A facility where you can learn about nature in the Tengu Highlands, which was designated Shikoku Karst Prefectural Natural Park. The Shikoku Karst is one of Japan's three major karsts, along with the Akiyoshidai Karst Plateau in Yamaguchi and the Hiraodai Karst Plateau in Fukuoka. It is about 25 kilometers from east to west and is between 1,000 and 1,400 meters above sea level. The study center has a variety of exhibits, including a diorama of the Tengu Highlands, wild plant photography, taxidermy, and a display on the karst's formation and wildlife.
  • Museum of the Former Residence of Tanaka Ryosuke

    Sakamoto Ryoma often paid casual visits to the Tanaka residence, and there are lots of stories about the time he spent there. The single-story house has a gable roof with base tiles and is surrounded by a high stone fence to protect it from strong winds. It's reminiscent of a wealthy farmer's mountain village estate.

    An exhibition facility with ogre statues visible from the national highway. Showcasing the Japan’s vintage Showa period (1926-1989), the main building mainly displays items from the mid-1920s and 1930s that might be nostalgic for older Japanese people and interesting for others. The annex has everything from items from the late Showa period to displays on stars from the 1980s.

    This gallery is designed to resemble a giant pure white clam, with two massive concrete slabs leaning against each other to create a peaked roof. The seashells on display inside were all collected by Tosashimizu resident artists Kurohara Kazuo. The colorful collection includes some that are academically valuable, and has about 50,000 pieces of about 3,000 different types.

    大河ドラマで使用された坂本家のセットが有りました。館内のお土産屋さんで飲食物を購入するとこのセットの中で食べることが出来ます。私が購入したのはアニメ「竜とそばかすの姫」とコラボした氷菓、坂本家の一員になったつもりで頂きました。

    竜串海岸の駐車場に車を停めて、海岸を見に行く途中にあります。洒落たデザインの小ぶりな建物です。貝殻を中心に展示してある珍しい資料館です。訪れた時は完全にシーズンオフなので、閉まっているように見えました。
