- At this tourist facility located in Tobe-cho, Iyo County in Ehime Prefecture, visitors can learn about the appeal of Tobe-yaki pottery, designated as an Ehime Prefectural Intangible Cultural Property and a traditional national industry. The manufacturing processes of Tobe-yaki pottery are almost all done by hand even today and the most interesting part of the facility is the area where you can watch the master craftsmen at work at close proximity. The facility also exhibits and sells works from potteries in the town as well as interactive workshops such as ceramics painting, hand-modelling and potter’s wheel work to create a souvenir of your trip.

- You’ll find this small pottery workshop in Tobe Town, Iyo County, Ehime Prefecture. It specializes in the traditional form of pottery known as “Tobe-yaki.” Tobe-yaki is known for being sturdy and handy and its indigo and white dye. This porcelain used to enjoy widespread daily use in the past. The gallery features works made via the “panel alignment” method by Chiyoko Nishiyama, in which several parts are combined like patchwork, as well as elegant vessels made by Kan Nishiyama with techniques used to fashion blade ridges. There are also cute bird-patterned works by Mikiko Hashimoto along with many others. Call in advance to schedule a tour.

Ehime Areas
Stretched across the northwest corner of Shikoku island, Ehime is a nature-rich prefecture boasting beautiful coastlines and a rural center where mountains play host to 26 of the Buddhist temples that make up the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Matsuyama is home to an original post-feudal castle as well as Dogo Onsen, one of the country’s oldest natural hot springs. The northern city of Imabari marks the entrance to the Shimano Kaido, a road that crosses six spectacular bridges and several islands, forming a route between Shikoku and mainland Honshu.
