    Ehime Matsuyama-shi Dogoyunomachi 5-6
A walking path in Dogoyunomachi, Matsuyama City. Located on the top of Mt. Kanmuri near the Dogo Onsen Honkan Main Building public bathhouse from this spot you can enjoy the view of the Dogo Onsen Hot Spring Town. It was remodeled in 2019 and the footbaths, gazebo, resting areas, and garden where you can enjoy seasonal flowers were improved.

  • Haiku Capital Matsuyama Haiku Post Boxes
    Travel / Tourism
    Ehime Matsuyama-shi
These haiku post boxes allow anyone to submit a haiku. The first was installed at the Matsuyama Castle Ropeway’s Chojaganaru Station in 1968 after a popular tourism haiku contest commemorating the 100th anniversary of the births of Masaoka Shiki, Natsume Soseki, and Yanagihara Kyokudo. Today there are 92 of these post boxes installed around Matsuyama City at local tourist attractions, inside streetcars, at lodging facilities in Dogo Onsen, and other locations. There are also 14 post boxes installed outside the prefecture as well as five installed overseas. Once every three months, local haiku poets select the best of all the submitted haiku. Each of the winners is presented with a collection of all the award-winning haiku.

Ehime Areas

around-area-map

Stretched across the northwest corner of Shikoku island, Ehime is a nature-rich prefecture boasting beautiful coastlines and a rural center where mountains play host to 26 of the Buddhist temples that make up the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Matsuyama is home to an original post-feudal castle as well as Dogo Onsen, one of the country’s oldest natural hot springs. The northern city of Imabari marks the entrance to the Shimano Kaido, a road that crosses six spectacular bridges and several islands, forming a route between Shikoku and mainland Honshu.
