    You’ll find this longstanding local restaurant in Sanban Town, Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. It opened during the Kanei period. Enjoy some traditional Ehime cuisine amid the subdued, authentic Japanese ambiance, such as sea bream somen noodles, sea bream rice, jakoten (a kind of fried kamaboko), and more. The sea bream somen noodles are the restaurant’s signature dish. They come with a whole small sea bream on top and feature “five-color somen,” which is a favorite in Matsuyama. There are also plenty of fish from the Seto Inland Sea and local vegetables and meat dishes that go well with local Ehime sake.

One of the restaurant’s specialties is taimeshi, which refers to a number of dishes featuring sea bream served with ric e. Three different types are available; their original Nanyo-style taimeshi, which features sea bream sashimi and grated yam, hyugameshi, which is served with a raw egg, and Chuyo-style taimeshi, which features a whole sea bream steamed together with the rice.

All tables inside are sunken kotatsu (heated tables) and there is a calm atmosphere. The local cuisine using seasonal seafood from the Seto Inland Sea is popular; it includes the Uwajima-style sea bream rice, a local specialty. It is a well-known restaurant where you can enjoy local cuisine, mainly sushi, using fresh seafood from the Seto Inland Sea. At lunch time, sushi main Sushi-tempurazen and Kotobukizen are popular. It boasts a range of elaborate dishes including Taimeshi (Hyugameshi) which it is said the Iyo navy originally started eating on board ship, Taisomen for which a whole sea bream decorates five-colored somen noodles as well as kaiseki ryori (a sophisticated Japanese multi-course meal) which can be used for group dinners and memorial services.

    This restaurant serving local cuisine is located close to Dogo Onsen Honkan in Matsuyama City, Ehime Prefecture. Its most famous dish is the Dogo tendon rice bowl topped with a generous portion of prawn, chikuwa fish sausage and vegetable tempura. It is a superb dish of which the restaurant is proud and for which ingredients are carefully selected right down to the sauce, rice, miso soup and pickles.     Along the Okaido shopping district near Katsuyama-cho Station, this standing bar serves only sake. As a showroom for the Ehime manufacturer, the modest shop interior is welcoming to any person who wants to casually drop by, built around the theme of “casual sake.” They offer about 150 brands from 28 local Ehime breweries. A rare standing-style bar, you can a cup of local sake for 100 yen and there are lots of snacks too. Enjoy the mood, and check out some as souvenirs too. It has even been shown on television.

    Located a 5-minute walk from Dogo Onsen Station, the Nikitatsu kaiseki cuisine restaurant is annexed to an old sake wine cellar facing the Nigitatsu road. Directly operated by Mizukuchi Shuzo sake brewery, a large variety of Japanese wines can be enjoyed including Daiginjoshu Sanjugo and junmai, Iyo no Usuzumizakura, as well as shochu, and the Dogo microbrew. The meal courses, artistically arranged in kaiseki style, are centered around fresh sashimi distinctively served in wooden-tubs. This cuisine can be economically enjoyed during lunch hours, along with other dishes such as tempura bowl-set dishes. Nikitatsu-an also offers a local Dogo beer and snack set.

    今は道後にあります。料理はおまかせのコ―スのみです。愛媛の地酒もいろいろあります。一品ごとの量は多くないのですが皿数が多いので、個人的には一品ぐらい少なくても良かったかなと思います。

Stretched across the northwest corner of Shikoku island, Ehime is a nature-rich prefecture boasting beautiful coastlines and a rural center where mountains play host to 26 of the Buddhist temples that make up the Shikoku Pilgrimage. Matsuyama is home to an original post-feudal castle as well as Dogo Onsen, one of the country’s oldest natural hot springs. The northern city of Imabari marks the entrance to the Shimano Kaido, a road that crosses six spectacular bridges and several islands, forming a route between Shikoku and mainland Honshu.
