The Shiwaku Islands, consisting of various small and large islands, were administered by 650 ship's officers under the red seal of Hideyoshi and Ieyasu until the Meiji period (1868-1912). The main building is open to the public as the Shiokaku Historical Museum, where visitors can view red seal certificates, fishing grounds permits, and items brought back from the U.S. by Shiokaku sailors.

Kagawa Takamatsu-shi Ritsurin Cho 1-20-16 Ritsurin Park Nai
This culture center is located within the nationally designated Special Place of Scenic Beauty, Ritsurin Park. This center has been awarded the highest possible 3-star recognition in the French travel guidebook, the Michelin Green Guide, Since its establishment in 1899; this center has been promoting the culture, arts, and industries of Kagawa Prefecture. The interior of the structure was remodeled in 2015, while preserving the original historic architecture. It is a traditional Japanese style construction but is interesting in that western influences can already be seen in the applied techniques. The primary characteristic of this historic structure is the symmetry on both sides of the building. In the main section, the history of the park, the best spots to see, and related historical figures are introduced. From the veranda on the south side, one has a beautiful view of the arbore row of manicured hakomatsu pines at the foot of Mt. Shiun.

    香川のお土産がたくさんあるので、お土産に悩んだ際にはこちらに来るといいと思います。また、栗林公園の中にあるので、アクセスもとてもいいです。

    Apomachi, Kotohira-cho, Nakatado-gun, Kagawa Prefecture
"Reportedly built in 1624, Sayabashi Bridge met with disaster on multiple occasions. The current structure was built in 1869 and moved to its present location in 1905. It's unusual in that it has a roof shaped like a sword's scabbard, or ""saya."""

Kagawa Takamatsu-shi Ritsurin Cho 1-20-16 Ritsurin Park Nai
This tea ceremony belvedere is located inside the nationally designated Special Place of Scenic Beauty, Ritsurin Park, and is the most significant structure in the park. Kikugetsutei, named after a classical Tang period Chinese prose, 'cupping water into my hands, I can hold the moon', means scooped-moon pavilion. The attraction of this teahouse, beloved by many generations of feudal lords, is found it its graceful uncluttered spaces open to light and nature. Built during the early Edo period, the Sukiya-zukuri boasts not only an exceptional architectural design but also a panoramic view of the landscaped garden through its sliding doors. One experiences a sense of being surrounded by masterpieces of landscape paintings.

Kagawa Areas

around-area-map

Japan’s smallest prefecture, Kagawa, may take up just a small corner of Shikoku, but it has grown increasingly popular with the recognition of Naoshima, its "art island" in the Seto Inland Sea between Shikoku and Honshu. Just a stone’s throw from the islands, mainland Kagawa’s prefectural capital, Takamatsu, holds history in its castle ruins and its pride and joy, Ritsurin Garden, is known as one of the country’s best gardens.
