"An udon noodle restaurant dedicated to the concept of local production for local consumption and which makes its noodles with ""Sanuki-no-Yume 2009"" flour. The restaurant is actually a mochi rice cake shop which has been in business since the early Showa period, and the establishment takes a break from offering udon during the busy Bon Festival and New Year's periods. The restaurant's exquisite noodles are chewy in texture and carry the subtle flavor of the Kagawa's ""Sanuki-no-Yume 2009"" flour with which they are exclusively made. In addition to udon, the restaurant menu also includes set meals, ohagi (rice ball coated with sweetened red beans), sekihan (steamed rice with red beans), mochi rice cakes, and more."

This udon shop prides itself in its home-made noodles and dashi broth made with fine ingredients like natural Hokkaido kelp, Ibuki dried sardines, and top-grade sugars such as Sudaki sugar and rare sugar. We recommend their Kamatama and Kamaage noodles that let the tastiness of the ingredients shine through. They have a variety of toppings to choose from and plenty of side items, too.

This popular udon shop makes their superb noodles every morning with a blend of fine local Sanuki flour, Sanuki no Yume 2009. The noodles go great with soup stock made the old-fashioned way, free of artificial seasonings. Side items include tempura and desserts like their scrumptious pudding that's also available for take-out.

Portions are huge, so go for the small. I went for the pork and beef one. At ¥420, its a really good price. Little bit of citrus to taste. The staff was super nice, and its a local eatery so its...

A long standing, authentic Sanuki noodle restaurant which was established in 1959. A self-service style establishment, after ordering, customers receive their udon noodles and add toppings such as tempura before pouring a hot or cold broth or pure soy sauce on top. Both broth and soy sauce are right there on the serving table for customers to choose whichever they prefer. The establishment also sells noodles and broth for taking home.

A noodle factory which has been making hand pulled noodles for some 400 years on Shodoshima Island. The factory offers tours which give participants the chance to see the production process. Wildly popular with tourists, tour goers can also eat some of the very same somen noodles they just watched being made right in front of their eyes. With an advance reservation, visitors can also try pulling some noodles by hand themselves, one of the most important steps in the production process.

An udon noodle restaurant where customers can enjoy udon crafted by master chefs and take in a view of the beautiful Seto Inland Sea. The easternmost udon noodle restaurant in the prefecture, the establishment also has an outdoor area with a view of the Seto Inland Sea sprawling into the distance just beyond the railing. Situated along National Route 11, the restaurant is also a convenient place to take a break and get a light meal while traveling through the area.

"This handmade sanuki udon noodle restaurant is located on the shores of Lake Manno an approximately 30-minute drive from the Zentsuji Interchange on the Takamatsu Expressway. While looking at the beautiful scenery of Lake Manno, you can enjoy local dishes made by locals filled with local flavors. ""Yakon udon,"" a specialty using Kagawa Prefecture wheat and the healthy vegetable yacon, is a chewy, no-salt, low-calorie popular diet food. In addition to udon noodles, their handmade yacon croquettes are a very popular menu item ordered by people as a single dish. They also conduct udon-making workshops."

About 11 minutes on foot from JR Hashioka Station. This Sanuki-style udon shop has a bright, open interior, with table seating and relaxed tatami seating—great for a relaxed meal, even with the kids. The Ippuku taste—a meticulous expansion of historic “Sanuki udon” through in-house methods—has gained many fans from all around. The supple elasticity and firm cuts of thin noodle are doused in deep rich dashi (stock) in “bukkake udon” and “kake udon”, which are delicious and reasonably-priced.

I had small size Udon with Chikuwa tempts for 390yen! It was very wonderful taste and enough to reason come back some time later:)

This shop sits quietly within its calm, garden milieu. A renovated storehouse, this shop offers a bright, open atmosphere and a great view to enjoy while you eat. The season-limited shippoku udon is a Sanuki local specialty, as is the premier shippoku made with olive beef. You have the choice of hot or cold kake-udon noodles.

The historical Kamebishi Chaya udon hideaway is operated by the impressive over 250-year-old Kamebishiya soy sauce factory. Kagawa Kanonji Kanonji Ko 2814
This udon noodle restaurant is located in a residential area one kilometer from Kan-Onji Station. The restaurant has been making delicious, old-fashioned, local-style udon noodles since it was established in 1927. The recipe for its thin noodles, unusual in the Sanuki region, has been handed down through the generations. The noodles have a slippery, perfectly springy texture and go perfectly with a broth which harnesses the innate flavor of dried sardines, kelp and Kagawa soy sauce. The restaurant’s udon, made with uncompromising ingredients, is so delicious, you can eat it every day without tiring of the flavor.

This udon shop is also an antenna store of Sanuki Shokuhin, a long-established noodle manufacturer. On holidays, the spacious parking lot often fills up in no time as many people from in and out of the prefecture visit the restaurant.

This udon noodle shop is located a three-minute drive from the Takamatsu-nishi Interchange on the Takamatsu Expressway. Identifiable by its large triangular roof, the restaurant serves springy udon noodles. The Niku Udon noodles are particularly popular; the vaunted bowl consists of an exquisite pairing of salty-sweet meat, rich dashi broth, and tasty noodles. Noodles; the sweetness and texture of the onions; and flavorful, tender meat – many people make their way here from beyond the prefecture’s borders just to try this tasty dish. The restaurant has been making its noodles based on the philosophy that good udon starts with good noodles since it was established in 1958.

With their trademark orange walls, at this udon eatery, as the name indicates, one can enjoy bukkake udon. But one of the most popular variations with the very satisfying Stamina Bukkake comes with meat, deep-fried tofu, grated daikon, and wakame seaweed, all topping the wonderfully slippery yet chewy noodles. The combination of the sweet-and-sour marinated meat and daikon together with the rich dashi broth is so delectable, you are hooked after one helping. They have many items on their menu in addition to udon; so visitors can enjoy nabeyaki udon (udon hotpot), curry udon, soba in soup, rice balls, and many other items.

    Kagawa Takamatsu-shi Otashimomachi 3013-1
This udon restaurant is about a 10-minute walk from the Kotoden Ota Station. Popular for its homemade noodles kneaded and cut everyday by the shop owner, this is a very popular and busy restaurant on weekdays or weekends, and is especially packed during lunchtime. At this self-service style restaurant, the customer warms the udon noodles to the temperature of their own preference and tops the noodles with their choice of toppings. The noodles are smooth with a good texture, and the combination with the bonito flavored broth is excellent.

This is an udon restaurant next to the Ota Pond, about 10 minutes by car from the nationally designated Special Place of Scenic Beauty, Ritsurin Park. This shop, recognizable by their large noren entryway curtain, offers the authentic traditional local Sanuki udon made from Kagawa wheat flour. This shop, in typical noodle manufacturer style, is a standing only restaurant enjoyed by the local residents. The broth, made from Hokkaido kelp and dried sardines from Ibuki Island goes well with the al dente noodles. Customers naturally come for lunch and dinner, but one of the attractions of this eatery is that some locals stop by for breakfast, so visitors can choose from unusual toppings such as a rolled egg, or sausage tempura. This shop also offers soba noodles and ramen, which is unconventional for an udon eatery.

    Kagawa Takamatsu-shi Asahishinmachi 1-16
This is the main store of Tamoya udon, which has shops not only around Kagawa, but also nationally and even overseas. Popular with the local residents, customers are always lined up at lunchtime and on the weekends. The spacious store has counter seating; tables, and also tatami floor seating. The restaurant is completely self-serve, so one can heat the noodles to the preferred temperature and pick one's own toppings of choice. One of its distinctive features is the open kitchen design, where all of the operations of food preparation are in view; from kneading the noodles, boiling, to frying the tempura. This is designed with the concept that 'each of the staff, as well as the owner, will work with a heightened awareness of the customer.'

Kagawa Areas

around-area-map

Japan’s smallest prefecture, Kagawa, may take up just a small corner of Shikoku, but it has grown increasingly popular with the recognition of Naoshima, its "art island" in the Seto Inland Sea between Shikoku and Honshu. Just a stone’s throw from the islands, mainland Kagawa’s prefectural capital, Takamatsu, holds history in its castle ruins and its pride and joy, Ritsurin Garden, is known as one of the country’s best gardens.
