Kiyomizuya, a tea house on a mountain pass, has been operating for over 200 years. They craft their hand-made tokoroten jelly noodles with 100% domestic tengusa seaweed without additives or artificial colors to deliver its traditional flavor. Some of their popular varieties include kuzumochi style, Naniwa brown sugar syrup style, and their soy sauce and vinegar style tokoroten, a local favorite.

Sanuki anmochi zoni soup is this sweet shop and tea house's hallmark dish. They offer Japanese-style parfaits, traditional sweets and desserts, as well as an extensive menu with local fare, light meals, and wrapped bento boxed lunches. They're also a Takamatsu pioneer of fusing Japanese and Western sweet styles.

This confectionery is a 10-minute walk from JR Konpira Station and located along the approach to Kotohira-gu Shrine, which is often referred to as Konpira-san. This shop produces and sells “kyuman,” which are a famous Konpira sweet and even supplied to the imperial household. They are popular as souvenirs among tourists as well as worshipers on their way from the shrine. This exquisitely sweet treat is filled with high-quality yellow bean jam wrapped in dough, and it can be enjoyed with tea at the shop. The storefront also sells senbei crackers, manju buns, udon, and other souvenirs. A moxibustion experience is held on the fourth Sunday of every month.

Kagawa Areas

around-area-map

Japan’s smallest prefecture, Kagawa, may take up just a small corner of Shikoku, but it has grown increasingly popular with the recognition of Naoshima, its "art island" in the Seto Inland Sea between Shikoku and Honshu. Just a stone’s throw from the islands, mainland Kagawa’s prefectural capital, Takamatsu, holds history in its castle ruins and its pride and joy, Ritsurin Garden, is known as one of the country’s best gardens.
