- Tokushima Pref. Narutoshi Oasachouotani Iridino shoulder 24
- This kiln has been making Otaniyaki—a traditional craft of Awa—since the Edo period. The sincere, grand beauty of the works—artistic works, hanging baskets, and human-sized jugs—is well received by locals and visitors to the Prefecture, even dubbed best in Japan by potter Kawai Kanjiro. Tour the workshop to get an up-close view of the craftsman techniques—including the only “lay-down potter’s wheel” in the country—or take courses (reservation required) in painting, using the wheel, or handwork. Next to Reizanji Temple, the first temple of the Shikoku 88-temple Pilgrimage, the garden lets you hear the sound of the suikinkutsu pot.

藍染体験の帰りに、大谷焼の窯元が集まっているエリアに寄りました。手頃でデザインも素敵な陶器がたくさんあり、見るだけでも楽しかったです。またゆっくり時間を取っていきたいと思いました。

The southeastern corner of Shikoku is home to Tokushima prefecture, a region celebrated for its luscious nature and the nation’s favorite Awa Odori, an energetic dance to which an annual summer festival has been dedicated. Keeping the upbeat tempo, whirlpools excite the Naruto sea off Tokushima, while inland, dramatic cliffs line the Iya Valley, promising unrivaled views of vast and vibrant scenery.
