    This kiln has been making Otaniyaki—a traditional craft of Awa—since the Edo period. The sincere, grand beauty of the works—artistic works, hanging baskets, and human-sized jugs—is well received by locals and visitors to the Prefecture, even dubbed best in Japan by potter Kawai Kanjiro. Tour the workshop to get an up-close view of the craftsman techniques—including the only “lay-down potter’s wheel” in the country—or take courses (reservation required) in painting, using the wheel, or handwork. Next to Reizanji Temple, the first temple of the Shikoku 88-temple Pilgrimage, the garden lets you hear the sound of the suikinkutsu pot.

    藍染体験の帰りに、大谷焼の窯元が集まっているエリアに寄りました。手頃でデザインも素敵な陶器がたくさんあり、見るだけでも楽しかったです。またゆっくり時間を取っていきたいと思いました。

    This facility serves as a disaster response center during major natural disasters. During ordinary times it serves as a place to promote disaster prevention awareness through experience-based learning and training. The center offers programs that teach participants how to protect themselves and help others in the event of an earthquake, storm, flood, fire, or other sudden disaster.
