It offers sobagome zosui (buckwheat porridge), a local delicacy well-known to the people of Tokushima Prefecture.     This Naruto udon shop has made its simple noodles by hand the same way since it was founded more than 40 years ago. Great attention is paid to make sure the thin and springy noodles are easy to eat. Their tempura, croquettes, and oden (hodgepodge stew), which is stewed in a special broth for hours, are also popular. Their take-home udon noodle sets, which are said to taste the same even when made at home, are also highly popular.

    もち天うどん、コロッケ、おでん4種で¥1045(税込)でした。 昭和の香りがする味わいです。開店後間もなかったからか、おでんの大根はまだ硬かったです。おでん出汁は薄味で飽きない味です。コロッケはじゃがいもゴロゴロで、家庭的な味です。うどんは、軟いきしめんという感じでした。これも出汁が良いです。 星3.5位と思いましたが、好みの味なので4にしました。

    This is a Japanese-style confectionary store built in a serene place, overlooking the Tokushima Castle Ruins. The store is built in the Sukiyazukuri architectural style, an architectural style based on the Japanese tea ceremony house. Confectionaries using carefully selected Shikoku and Tokushima regional ingredients such as Kitagawa Yuzu citrus and Sudachi citrus, Naruto kintoki sweet potato, Awa bayberry, and Itano Wasanbon sugar are popular. The most famous sweet is a rice cake called “Awayu” which is green Azuki bean paste wrapped in soft Habutae mochi. Also round and lovely Nishikidama confectionery filled with fruit called “Yuutama” are popular. In the store, visitors can enjoy tea and sweets while looking at the beautiful garden.

The restaurant serves classic Western dishes such as curry and omelette with rice as well as cuisine made with local produce such as “Iya soba noodles,” salt-grilled river fish such as sweetfish, and an eel on rice bowl. “Yokai Hitotsume Rice Bowl,” named after a local mythical creature legend and “Hidaru Ramen” are also popular.

    We had lunch here after the boat ride. You can view the river and the gorge from the restaurant while having your meal. We had udon and karaage and both were delicious.

    Cafe Takashima is a long-established café, founded in 1959. The retro-style wooden pot-shaped sign outside the café is very striking; apparently the café owner spotted this sign while on a trip to Italy, fell in love with it, and bought it to take back to Japan. Inside the café, the large table made from a single plank of wood, with a very tasteful design, attracts the eye. One of the most popular items on the menu is the hamburgers, which are made by heating the buns on a specially-made metal plate; rather than using regular round buns, the café uses thin slices of bread. The café’s Special Burgers include hamburger meat, ham, eggs, cheese and vegetables, providing a very substantial meal at a reasonable price.

The parking lot is almost always full during their popular lunch service.
