    Yamaguchi Pref. Hagishi Tsubaki Higashi Kogenhama 1189 - 453
    The HAGI GLASS Art Studio is the only workshop making Hagi Glass in Hagi City. The Studio was established in 1992 with the aim of reviving the tradition of making Hagi Glass, which was first developed in 1859 by Nakashima Jihei, a feudal retainer of the Choshu domain. The HAGI GLASS Art Studio creates a wide range of products that make great gifts, including pale green quartz basalt glassware, 10-sided Hagi facet glass vessels, etc. The Studio also has a classroom where visitors can try their hand at making glassware.

    The glass made on site is apparently full of scratches and is just beautiful and also completely heat resistant. Worth a visit to watch the glass blowing.

    This shop creates and sells hand-made citrus products with absolutely no preservatives, coloring, or additives from summer oranges, sour oranges, yuzu citruses, which are the specialty fruits of Hagi. At the direct-sales shop the fresh natsumikan (summer orange) juice is popular, while such items for order as the sliced natsumikan, marmalade and yuzu citrus vinegar are arrayed for tasting. During certain seasons, one can watch them make the citrus products.

    Senshunraku Jozan is a ceramics workshop which has Kaneko Nobuhiko, a ceramist who has won many awards including the Yamaguchi Prefecture Cultural Achievement Award, working there; here, visitors can experience the beauty of Hagi-ware, a ceramic tradition with a history going back more than 400 years. Besides opportunities to view the potters at work and have a guided tour of the bank kiln, there is also a gallery showcasing the workshop’s creations and a large gift shop. In the experiential classroom, visitors can enjoy learning how to paint Hagi-ware, how to shape pots by hand, etc. Meals can be arranged for larger groups of visitors.

    Gashudo is a shop specializing in Hagi-yaki potteries, located in the Horiuchi district of Hagi City. Items on sale in the shop include Hagi-yaki teacups and mugs, sake cups, bowls, pottery ornaments in the shape of animals, etc. The “Mugdrip” drip coffee mug that Gashudo sells, which makes effective use of Hagi-yaki's ability to retain heat, has been awarded a patent.

The store has a wide range of local specialty products, including handicraft products such as Hagi-yaki potteries and Hagi glassware, as well as food and beverage products such as local sakes. There is a range of products made using the Natsumikan oranges for which Hagi is famous, and visitors can also enjoy Natsumikan Soft Ice-cream.

Besides displaying and selling works from blue-chip artists representing Hagi-yaki to young ceramists, Saitoan also sells glassware, porcelain, metalwork, etc. Saitoan Loft, which shares the same location, sells a range of traditional Japanese goods, including bags, tea-towels, etc.

    "This Hagi-yaki pottery specialty shop was founded at the beginning of the Showa period in 1926 or later, and is the only gallery-style Hagi-yaki pottery tea bowl specialty shop in the country. The collection focuses on pieces from artists selected with exacting standards from all around Hagi, and the selection of tea bowls is huge. They display countless matcha tea bowls made by masters of Hagi-yaki pottery, including Living National Treasures Miwa Kyuwa (Kyusetsu the 10th) and Miwa Jusetsu (Kyusetsu the 11th). They also run tours of authentic Hagi-yaki pottery kilns, based on the principle that ""One can't tell the story of Hagi ware's art without seeing Hagi's world famous Hagi Koetsu (tea bowls).""     This shop dealing in Hagi-yaki pottery and tea ceremony goods is found at the entrance to the Tamachi shopping arcade. It has specialized in pottery from leading Hagi kilns since its founding in 1897, and the gallery on the second floor holds pieces by famous potters such as Saka Koraizaemon, Miwa Kyuwa, and Miwa Kyusetsu. Since they also offer a large number of very reasonable pieces, this shop is not only great for serious fans of Hagi's traditional pottery but also for those just getting their first taste of it. The shop also has a long tradition of specializing in tea, and their range of tea ceremony tools and tea leaves is impressive as well.

    This shop is inside Hagi Museum. They offer original merchandise based on the museum's collection, as well as their pictorial records of special exhibition, books about Hagi figures like Yoshida Shoin or Takasugi Shinsaku, and more. From mid-February through late March, they have a special Camellia section to match the yearly Hagi Camellia Festival. During the festival, they sell flower-patterned phone straps, Goshuin-cho seal stamp books, Japanese hand towels, and more. The Hagi-made summer tangerine sweets also make perfect souvenirs of your trip. It's a popular destination during any trip to the museum, or even when just strolling by sightseeing!
