    Built on the site of the former Kameyama campus of the Faculty of Economics, Yamaguchi University, the Yamaguchi Prefectural Art Museum is a public art museum with a strong local flavor that is closely integrated with the local community. The Museum’s collections are oriented toward artists with a connection to Yamaguchi Prefecture; for example, they include works from Kazuki Yasuo’s “Siberia Series,” works by Kobayashi Wasaku, etc. The collections also include many outstanding Nihonga paintings (including the “Landscape Scroll After Kegong Gao,” which has been designated as an Important Cultural Property) and photographic works, etc. The Museum holds several exhibitions of works from its own collections and special exhibitions every year. The bright, cheerful cafe facing the central atrium is very popular with visitors.

    Yamaguchi Yamaguchi-shi Mizunouecho 5-27

    五重塔が有名な瑠璃光寺の西側に、洞春寺という古いお寺があります。その洞春寺の門のすぐとなりに、サイディングの外壁ののむら美術館がありました。 洞春寺の門がかなり歴史を重ねた古い建物なので、その対比が面白いですね。のむら美術館には、山口市内で酒造業営んでいた野村益治氏が収集した美術品が展示されているそうですが、私たちが訪れた2022年10月の日曜日はシャッターが閉じていて開いていませんでした。
