    A Shinto shrine in 2 Chome, Kamishinchi-cho, Shimonoseki City. It was founded by Takasugi Shinsaku as a place to pray for patriots who had died for their country. It currently honors 391 people, including Yoshida Shoin, Yamagata Aritomo, and Takasugi Shinsaku himself. The Kiheitai Festival is held every year in November.

    "This ancient shrine is located to the south of Noda Shrine. It was built in 1503 by Yoshioki Ouchi, the 30th head of the Ouchi clan. It is famous for its arrangement, which is unique to the Yamaguchi region, with a main worship hall at the towering gate. There are many ""kaerumata"" (sculptures that look like frog's legs) around it, indicating the process of transition from the flat design characteristic of the Muromachi period (1336-1573) to the thicker design of the next period. It is designated as an important cultural property of Japan along with the main hall, the two-storied gate and the hall of worship connected by a corridor."

    This ancient shrine is said to date from 1686. It stands in the middle of Myojin pond, which spreads from the eastern foot of Mt. Kasa, and is a branch of Miyajima Itsukushima-jinja Shrine. This shrine began when the second lord of the Hagi domain, Mori Tsunahiro, transferred the tutelary deity of Itsukushima-Myojin in Aki, which had been worshipped by his ancestor Mori Motonari. The nickname of Myojin-sama and Myojin pond are also said to come from the deity enshrined at Itsukushima. The pond's water level rises and falls with the tides of the open sea, and fishes dedicated by local fishermen in prayer for safe fishing and big catches are breeding there. You can see a variety of sea fish swimming in the pond, such as red sea bream, striped beakfish, mullet, rays, and more.

    Hoshoan (meaning a fragrant pine retreat) was built in 1991 on the grounds of a former monks' quarter. Sugiwara no Michizane (845-903) revived the practice of enjoying tea in the 9th century imperial court. (Tea at the time tasting more medicinal that what is currently enjoyed.) This tea house was built in honor of that tradition. The Hoshoan is actually a small traditional tea house located on the eastern side of the garden but sitting opposite the tea house is a large two-story building. Both buildings overlook a beautiful garden featuring a stream which is home to a number of carp. The admission fee to the tea house includes matcha green tea and seasonal traditional Japanese sweets. The proper method for enjoying your tea is to take the bowl with your right hand, place it on your right palm, and then to turn the bowl twice clockwise. In doing this you can avoid drinking the tea from the front of the bowl.

    平知盛が背水の陣を引いた彦島。 立派なお社、綺麗に掃き清められたお庭は特筆すべきです。 実は彦島神社巡り御朱印は10種類あるようで、今度はお参りを済ませて頂戴いたします。境内にはペトログリフ磐座もあり、ペトログラフとは違うということも認識させて戴きました。

    バリアフリーで拝殿前まで上がれる。ただし、石畳や砂利の所も多いので、車椅子は少し難儀かもしれないと思った。大木が林立する中にあることで神聖な雰囲気が醸し出され、いろいろな由緒がありそうな神社。説明書きによると、女性神職の誕生やおみくじの普及に関係しているらしい。

    急な石段を上がって行くと境内に向かう事が出来ました。境内からは、港を望む事が出来、下関駅方面を見渡せました。 当然のように稲荷神社だけあって朱塗りの社殿が遠目にも目立っていました。

    室津港を見下ろす賀茂神社の境内に上がるとその横から更に上がった場所に朱塗りの鳥居が連続していました。この鳥居群を抜けると稲荷神社の社殿が立っていました。やや木立が多いものの山上の神社風となっており、所謂「境内社」の稲荷社を超えるような社殿となっていました。
