"This Japanese-style confectionery shop, located about a 15-minute walk from Higashi Hagi Station on the JR Sanin Line, offers a variety of traditionally made sweets. The roll cake ""Akamai Maki"", made using local produce, and the ""Hagi Komichi"" baked goods, are popular. There is also a cafe space in the shop with a Japanese atmosphere, and many people visit from afar."

"This Japanese confectionery shop was founded in 1927. Just a short walk from Yamaguchi Station, it continues to make the traditional confectionery ""Yamaguchi Uiro"" that dates back to the Muromachi period (1336-1573). The beautiful pale violet and the peculiar texture reminiscent of the calm ancient capital of Yamaguchi give it an elegant taste that has not changed even now since ancient times. The most popular product is ""Shirouiro,"" which is addictive with its gentle sweetness and refreshing elegance. It sells ""Kurouiro"" kneaded with Okinawan brown sugar, ""Matcha Uiro"" kneaded with matcha green tea from Kyoto, and ""Hina Uiro"" associated with hishi-mochi of the Doll's Festival and shaped like a diamond."

"This long-established Japanese confectionery store was founded in 1883. It is located in a corner of Nakaichi shopping street and sells signature products such as ""Meika Shitatsuzumi,"" uiro and castellas. The Meika Shitatsuzumi, which has been improved over and over again, is an elegant treat with a combination of fluffy rice cake and white smooth bean paste. The molding of rice cake manju buns, which collapses if even a little force is applied, is still done by hand. Since it can be purchased from a single item, it is perfect as souvenirs from Yamaguchi."

Yamaguchi Areas

around-area-map

Heading west along Japan’s largest island, Honshu, the very last prefecture you’ll reach is Yamaguchi, separated from Kyushu by a small strip of water known as the Kanmon Straits, which the far-reaching harbor city Shimonoseki looks over. With water at every turn, the seafood of Yamaguchi is an indisputable highlight, and we’re not talking just the usual fish dishes - the notorious fugu, or puffer fish, is a Japanese delicacy that was discovered in Yamaguchi prefecture, making it the best place to try it out.
