This ramen shop in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture is notable for their light soy sauce-derived flavor of their secret soup. Since its founding, the restaurant exclusively used spring water from Onomichi, which has the same mineral content as that from Mt. Daisen (Tottori Prefecture), to make its soup. It is a café located by the sea of Onomichi. There are art works on the walls inside the shop painted by artists which change monthly. It is a comfortable space you can relax, enjoy lattes that have an adorable cat picture on top as well as handmade desserts. For both lunches and dinners local produce is used, and the “Yamaneko Lunch”, which has the option of white rice or brown rice, is popular. It is available for parties as well.

Delicious, healthy food -- nice modest portions. Does not seat many, so you may have to wait for them to call you when your table comes available.

This 283-meter-high mountain is a designated National Park. It's famous for the pirate Murakami Fleet lookout tower on the peak, which offers a 360 degree view of the Innoshima Bridge and the islands of the Seto Inland Sea. You can drive to the top, but we recommend walking the Seto no Utamichi trail leading up from the Tachibana Shizen Katsuyo Mura, which is lined with poem-inscribed stones to offer some literature with your walk.

A small café located in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. The café’s entrance is found along a narrow, stone-paved path on a hill which exudes an atmosphere from a time now past. The owner opened the café in the garden of his own home, and its soothing atmosphere makes it the perfect place to take a break in between a stroll exploring old temples in the area. Cherry blossoms in spring and fall foliage in autumn can be enjoyed from the café’s open air seating area. The café’s indoor seating is situated inside a renovated old warehouse, which also accommodated Onomichi Bunko, a book library displaying rare books such as first editions of the works of novelist Naoya Shiga. Here you can enjoy literature and beautiful rural scenery along with a handmade slice of cake, matcha green tea, or cup of coffee.

Hiroshima Areas

There is more than meets the eye awaiting any Hiroshima-bound traveler. Kicking off in Hiroshima city, the Peace Memorial Park, Hiroshima Castle, and Shukkeien Garden offer a couple of days of exploring; however, the real beauty lies along the southern coast of the prefecture. There, a series of islands spreads across the Seto Inland Sea: from the mysterious sea-submerged Great Torii Gate at Miyajima Island to the first half of the islands that connect Honshu to Shikoku via six spectacular suspension bridges.
