This museum is located in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, in Naka District, of Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. It was founded with the objective of imparting the reality of the harm from the atomic bomb dropped on August 6, 1945, and the abolition of nuclear weapons, and the attainment of world peace. The museum is divided between the main building and the east building. Along with items that reveal the horrible spectacle and mementos of the bomb victims, the conditions of pre and post-bomb Hiroshima and an introduction to the nuclear era are introduced. The museum is remembered also by the 2016 visit of President Barak Obama, the first ever incumbent head of state of a nuclear power to visit the museum.

Hiroshima Castle, which was built by Mori Terumoto, one member of Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s Council of Five Elders, is also known by another name, Carp Castle, and is counted as one of Japan’s three greatest flatland castles. The main keep which was constructed in 1598 was designated a National Treasure in 1931, but was destroyed by the atomic bombing. The exterior was restored in 1958 with a ferro-concrete structure. In 1989, as the castle welcomed 400 years of history, the ni-no-maru was restored, the moat was cleaned, and the interior was remodeled, and now it is used as a history museum with the theme of samurai culture.

This is a facility located in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. The memorial was constructed in an effort to remember and mourn the atomic bomb victims at the time of the dropping of the bomb on August 6, 1945, as well as those who died afterwards, and to pray for eternal peace. The Hall of Remembrance presents a panoramic view of the A-bombed city, a place to quietly mourn A-bomb victims and reflect on peace, an information exhibition section for planned exhibitions, and a hands-on reading room. The nearest stops on the Hiroshima Electric Railway tram are “Genbaku Dome Mae” (Atomic Bomb Dome) stop and “Hondori” stop.

An art museum focusing on modern art located in Naka Ward, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture which was opened in 1978 in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Hiroshima Bank. The museum has a large collection of modern art with a focus on Vincent van Gogh, Édouard Manet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne and other Impressionist artists. Including its modern Japanese art, the museum’s collection consists of some 300 works. In addition to a standing exhibition of some 90 modern French artworks, the museum also holds special exhibitions several times a year. There’s also a museum shop and fashionable café with a view of the museum’s inner garden.

At 600 yen ($4.50) it maybe worth the experience but 1/2 the collection was closed and 1/2 the art shown on the flyer was out on loan. The grounds and the rodin sculptures are very nice...

A Shinto shrine honoring those who have died in while fighting wars located inside Hiroshima Castle Park in Naka Ward, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. The shrine was built in 1868 as Suisho Reisha Shrine to enshrine the souls of the samurai of Hiroshima Domain who died in the Boshin War. Today, the shrine enshrines the spirits of 92 thousand who fell in battle thereafter. The main shrine building was lost during the atomic bombing of 1945 and was rebuilt in 1956. In addition to being one of the most prominent shrines in the prefecture, it is also a popular destination for local citizens to visit and pray for the victory of the Hiroshima Toyo Carp professional baseball team. A “Naki-zumo” event is held here each year on May 5 in which sumo wrestlers battle each other by holding babies and attempting to see who can get theirs to cry the loudest, a traditional ritual which seeks to ensure the healthy growth of the children involved.

If you walk to the back of the Castle you will be treated to a small shrine. You can buy a fortune or a blessed item. Not as ornate as some of the other shrines, but very peaceful. Worth the visit...
A-Bomb Dome

An atomic bomb was dropped on the city of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945. Just about 160 meters northwest of the bomb’s hypocenter was the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, which was built in 1915. The building was destroyed by the explosion’s blast and heat rays, and while the ceiling was burned, miraculously the center portion of the main building escaped destruction, and the round steel frame of the dome on the top that remained came to be called the “A-Bomb Dome.” It is a building to tell future generations about the tragedy of war and destruction, and is registered as a world heritage site as a symbol to appeal to the world for the abolition of nuclear weapons and the importance of enduring peace.

A Buddhist temple in Nishi Ward, Hiroshima City located halfway up Mt. Mitaki is part of the Koyasan Shingon-shu grouping of temples. Said to have been founded in 809 by Kukai, there are three waterfalls with different streams located on the grounds. The two-story pagoda erected as a memorial to victims of the atomic bombs was transferred from Wakayama’s Hirohachiman-Jinja shrine and has been designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan. Inside the pagoda is another Important Cultural Property of Japan, a wooden statue depicted the seated form of the Amitabha (Amidanyorai) Buddha. The temple is well known as a place to see cherry blossoms in the spring and autumn colors in the fall, and there is always a great turn out of visitors.

Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum is a museum in Hiroshima City, Naka Ward, Hiroshima Prefecture. Boasting a collection of more than 4,800 pieces including Important Cultural Properties, focusing on modern Western paintings and Japanese paintings, as well as “Craft Art of Japan and Asia”. The collection includes many artworks of artists from the Hiroshima region, such as Katsuzo Entsuba and Ikuo Hirayama. The museum holds special exhibitions and themed lecture events to compliment them as well as changing the exhibition about four times a year. From the museum lobby and the resting lounge, you can enjoy the scenery of a Place of Scenic Beauty, the Shukkeien garden next to the museum.

This museum is located in Minami Ward, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. It is inside Hijiyama Park, which is a well-known cherry blossom spot. It opened in 1989 as Japan’s first public modern art museum. Its collection focuses on postwar modern art and features over 1,600 works, including Henry Moore’s “The Arch” and Andy Warhol’s “Marilyn.” In addition to collection exhibits and planned exhibits, the museum also hosts workshops and other events. The building design by architect Kisho Kurokawa is also not to be missed.

I started walking down river and bumped it a sign and followed it, this is what I found. I was lucky to find a very interesting exhibit on between the wars architecture.

"Even though a mere 380 meters from the blast center, this was a robust building, so it did not receive structural damage. It resumed business operations two days after the blast and was used until 1992. It's one of the buildings in the blast that remains today. Designated as an Important Cultural Property by Hiroshima City, it is open to the public. In May of 2019, a permanent display of Hiroshima City materials, the ""Modern Hiroshima History and Migration to foreign countries,"" opened in first floor basement."

Bumped into this walking through the city streets, dont know if it had access, I didnt see any. it looks old enough to have been one of the surviving buildings, but dont think so.

This building was constructed in 1929 by Osaka’s Taishoya Gofukuten (a kimono shop), and features a ferro-concrete construction, which was unusual at that time. Sales areas with show windows occupied the space from the first floor up to the third floor, customers were allowed to enter with their shoes on, and the rooftop offered a view of the city. The atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima in August of 1945, and as this building was only 170 meters from the bomb’s hypocenter, the roof was flattened, the interior was also destroyed and the entire structured burned down except for the basement. Somehow a prototype of the building was restored after the war and from 1982 it has been used as a rest house for the Peace Memorial Park.

Located right in the Peace Park there are washrooms as well as a tourist Info site. Upstairs there are also a couple of displays upstairs that was worthwhile visiting for free.

This children’s science museum houses a planetarium, where shows are held four times a day on weekdays, and six times a day on weekends and holidays. They also have permanent displays and events designed to let guests familiarize themselves with science including science shows and science classes. An elementary school (the former Fukuromachi Senior Elementary School) in Naka Ward, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, situated just 460 meters from the atomic bomb blast center. All of the wooden school buildings were destroyed by the blast from the atomic bomb and a large number of children and teachers who failed to evacuate were killed. The outer shell of the west wing of the school building with its reinforced concrete was all that remained. It was used as a relief center for victims of the blast and as a place to search for lost relatives and students. Even today you can still see the messages that people wrote with chalk remaining on the walls. Part of the west wing is now open to the public as a museum where visitors can see the message walls and other things from that devastating day.

三段峡の帰り寄りました。ワッフルを３個買いました。とても柔らかく、小さく切った柿が入っていてとても美味しかった。冷凍で日持ちするし１０個買えばよかった。柿の入ったソフトも買いました。薄くスライスした柿がどっさり入っていて美味しかった。柿は体を冷やすというので夏に食べるのもいいのかも解けないアイスもみんな買ってました。今度行ったら買おう！

This museum dedicated to the subject of meteorology, one of only a few in Japan, is located inside the former head office of the Hiroshima Local Meteorological Office. Its permanent exhibits include independent weather forecasts for the Hiroshima City area, the Meteorological observatory equipment installed at Hiroshima’s former meteorological observatory, materials related to the atomic bombing, and more. In its hands-on exhibit area, visitors can experience strong winds in the museum’s Wind Blast Capsule or feel what it’s like to be inside a typhoon’s clouds in their Typhoon Box.

Their permanent exhibit includes the Four Treasures of the Study, the ink, inkstone, paper, and brush, and they have demonstrations by practitioners of the craft showing how the brushes are made. A tourist facility located in the Hondori Shopping Arcade in Naka Ward, Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture. As well as tourist information and brochures on events and things going on in the prefecture, Hiroshima Dream Plaza sells all sorts of sightseeing tickets and specialty products. The shop has a wide variety of unique Hiroshima souvenirs from different parts of the prefecture. They also hold different events in store such as fresh vegetable markets and sales of seafood, etc. Lots of local residents as well as tourists come here to shop.

本通りにある土産物と地元の買い物が半々のような店でした。店の中は外からは見えないところまで陳列があり、思ったより広かったです。広島駅近くに宿泊していたので結局土産は広島駅であとで購入しましたが、紙屋町周辺宿泊ならこういうところでの土産物も悪くないかもしれないと思いました。

This museum is located in Minami Ward, Hiroshima City. It is notable for its building made of red bricks, a former Japanese army built in the Meiji period, which survived the atomic bombing. The museum’s permanent exhibits introduce the history of the regional industries that developed in the Hiroshima City region starting in the Edo period. It also has a hands-on exhibit room where visitors can touch items such as a stone mortar and pestle, a loom, and more. The museum also holds special exhibits, classes, and other events.

被爆建物はいくつもありますが、広島市の中心部からここは3km程度でしょうか。「ひろでんの路面電車」で宇品港方面に乗れば楽に行けると思います。河川敷の窪地のような場所にちょこんとあります。赤レンガの可愛いい感じの建物です。歴史的にも意義は大きいと思いますので、時間があればぜひ訪ねてみてください。

The Sandan-kyo Valley is a long ravine in Akiota Town, Yamagata County, Hiroshima Prefecture, which cuts along the Shibaki River. It has been designated as a Special Place of Scenic Beauty. Visitors will be able to enjoy the magnificent scenery with some places resembling Japanese gardens or landscape paintings with the trees and waterfalls coloring the gorge and the emerald green of the water creating a spectacularly beautiful valley picture. Especially worth seeing are the so called five big sights comprising the Kuro-fuchi Pool, the Sarutobi, the Nidan-no taki and Sandan-no-taki (Two Step and Three Step Falls), and the Mitsutaki Falls. Sandan-kyo Valley is a place visited by many tourists especially during the autumn when the leaves are changing color. Visitors can enjoy walking along the promenade, taking a riverboat or even have a go at some kayaking.
