    Okayama Kurashiki-shi Achi 2-14-1
Located a five-minute walk from JR Kurashiki Station. This Japanese restaurant offers authentic Japanese cuisine with a strong focus on flavor, ingredients, and freshness. Their hand-made dishes strive to show off a sense of the season with a focus on care and gentle flavors. The restaurant operates out of a 100-year-old kominka house that gives off a relaxed classic atmosphere you won't find outside of Kurashiki. For lunch we recommend their Hiruzen Lunch Set which comes with an assortment of sashimi, fried foods, takiawase (simmered dish), small side dishes, and vinegared dish. For dinner, alongside their course meal which requires reservation, we recommend their seasonal a la carte offerings including sashimi and simmered fish dishes.

  • Bukkake Furuichi Naka Store
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Okayama Kurashiki-shi Achi 2-3-23
Located just a five-minute walk from JR Kurashiki Station. This is the oldest flagship shop in the Furuichi chain of udon noodle restaurants which is famous for Kurashiki's specialty Bukkake Udon. Bukkake Udon is a dish with a gentle mouthfeel yet springy texture to the noodles served in a strong salty-sweet broth. It's a highly recommended standard menu focusing on its four component parts, water, salt, broth, and flour. Also highly recommended is their Kamatama dish which mixes freshly boiled udon noodles with raw egg and shaved dried bonito. The soft and springy texture of the udon mixes with the egg and pairs perfectly with the taste and flavor of their special soy sauce.

This townscape is what remains of Edo-period Shimotsui, a historical port town that looks out at the Seto Inland Sea. The road stretches from the shrine path leading to Gion Shine to eastern Tanoura, and is lined with classic herring storehouses and townhomes featuring stucco and Namako walls and classic tile roofs. The area has been designated a Prefectural Townscape Preservation District.

A five-minute drive from the Kojima Interchange on the Seto Chuo Expressway. This restaurant specializing in octopi cuisine is located close to Shimotsui Port. They only use local caught Shimotsui octopi which is said to have the best flavor. As the fresh octopus is prepared right on the spot you can enjoy the best possible flavor and texture. The restaurant is well known for their Tako-zanmai course, a course meal full of octopus dishes such as fresh octopus sashimi, makoshinjo made with octopi eggs, tempura fried octopus, and vinegared octopus. Other recommended dishes are their Karaage fried octopus and their Amakarani, a sweet and salty tender dish that is simmered for nearly 16 hours.

    Okayama Kurashiki-shi Tamashima Chuocho 1-22-36
A 11-minute drive from the Tamashima Interchange on the Sanyo Expressway. A bakery run by a brewery that has produced miso and soy sauce since the late Edo period. The name of the shop comes from the Portuguese for Hand-made. The popular well known Misopan is made with a dough containing miso and black sesame seeds topped with a salty-sweet miso cream. Also recommended is their unique Makizushi (Sushi Roll) Bread in which a whole sushi roll is wrapped with bread dough. The bakeryhas a cafe space where you can enjoy your bread with a coffee or other drink.

Okayama Areas

around-area-map

Overshadowed by Hiroshima to the west and the Kansai region to the east, Okayama is an easy spot to miss but a nature-rich gem where the Seto Inland Sea laps at its toes and peach and grape farms complete its interior. One of Japan’s Three Great Gardens, Koraku-en in Okayama city is well worth a visit before progressing to Kurashiki, where preserved wooden Edo buildings line the picturesque canal.
