A 10-minute walk from JR Kurashiki Station. This folk arts shop and rental gallery, located in Kurashiki Bikan Historical Quarter, operate out of renovated former rice storehouse from the Edo Period. Under the giant beams in the shop you'll find a variety of works including hand-made ceramics, glass work, woven rush, and dyed pieces. Their assorted five-color Rush Coasters, made from domestic natural rush with cutely designed Japanese patterned silk edging, are a popular product. The rental gallery has a large room on the first floor and a smaller room on the second floor. In the attached annex building you'll get a special feeling as you take of your shoes and ascend into the building. Tours are available as requested.

Okayama Areas

around-area-map

Overshadowed by Hiroshima to the west and the Kansai region to the east, Okayama is an easy spot to miss but a nature-rich gem where the Seto Inland Sea laps at its toes and peach and grape farms complete its interior. One of Japan’s Three Great Gardens, Koraku-en in Okayama city is well worth a visit before progressing to Kurashiki, where preserved wooden Edo buildings line the picturesque canal.
