- Shimane Pref. Unnanshi Daitouchousuga 260
- This is a shinto shrine is located in Suga, Daito Town, Unnan City. It is called Nihonhatsunomiya as it originates from Sugamiya which was made after Susanoo-no-mikoto defeated Yamata-no-Orochi. It is also said to be “the birthplace of waka (a type of Japanese poem)” as Susanoo-no-mikoto read the oldest Waka in Japan. The Waka goes “I am trying to build a place in Izumo to take a new wife, and the multifold fences look like overlapping clouds”. On the path leading to the shrine, there are 60 stone poem monuments built.

It was a nice experience. We washed with the shrine water and saw how people perform their prayers in a calm and a peaceful environment

Shimane Areas
What Shimane prefecture lacks in size and population, it makes up for in scenery and ancient mythology. Izumo-taisha, in the middle of the prefecture, is said to be Japan’s oldest Shinto shrine, where stories that delve into the creation of the Japanese race have been passed down over centuries. The 180 Oki Islands, a 40-minute ferry ride north of Sakaiminato, offer an undiscovered paradise well off the beaten track.
