    This is a commercial complex located in Tamatsukuri Onsen district in Matsue City, Shimane Prefecture, with five distinctive shops in a former inn building overflowing with Japanese charm. The first floor is a popular yukata rental shop, popular with those strolling around the spa district, and a souvenir shop with items on the theme of beautiful skin. On the second floor there is a relaxing Japanese cafe mame cafe, a denim specialty shop, and a sundries store focusing on local artists’ works. The store is a nostalgic, healing space with its eye-catching thick beams and pillars giving a sense of history.

  • Matsue Lakeline Bus

    This is an excursion bus leaving bus stop No. 7 at JR Matsue Station at 20-30 minute intervals. It runs a course around the sightseeing spots of Matsue City in approximately 50 minutes. There are two routes, the Lake Line Route and Sunset Course depending on the time. Both routes include sights such as Matsue Castle designated as a National Treasure, and Shiomi Nawate, Matsueshinjiko-onsen Station, Shinji-ko-ohashi Bridge, Shimane Art Museum, and the Lake Shinji Pleasure Boat pier. One day and two day tickets, convenient for sightseeing, are also available.

    There are outdoor sculptures imitating 12 rabbits on the lawn in front of Shimane Art Museum on the shores of Lake Shinji. It is said that happiness will come if you touch the second rabbit counting from the lake facing west. It is gaining popularity as a marriage spot, which seems to be more effective if you make an offering of freshwater clams which are a specialty of Lake Shinji.

    This is a shrine located in Iya, Higashiizumo Town, Matsue City. Izanami-no-mikoto, the wife of Izanagi-no-mikoto is enshrined here. It is a historical shrine that has been described in Izumo Nation Fudoki and Nihon Shoki, and was also involved in the creation of Izumo Taisha Grand Shrine. It is near the entrance of the underworld Yomotsu Hirasaka appearing in Japanese mythology, so is regarded as a shrine deeply related to Hades.

    Shiomi Chaya is a tea-house located on Prefectural Route 37 to the north of Matsue Castle in Kitahori Town, Matsue City. Shiomi Chaya serves Botebote Tea—which is made by adding grains, pickles etc. to coarse green tea that has been whipped into a froth using a tea-whisk, and which is said to have been a favorite snack eaten by Matsudaira Harusato, the lord of the Matsue domain, while out hunting with falcons—as well as green tea, coffee, soba noodles, etc. Visitors can enjoy eating or drinking while relaxing on the terrace, which faces the moat of Matsue Castle. Shiomi Chaya also has a souvenir gifts corner where visitors can purchase famous local tea, confectionery and sake products, etc.

    時間のない中での昼食に利用しました。入口はお土産物屋さんぽいですが、奥に食事をするコーナーがあります。お堀に面してテラス席もあり、雰囲気が良いです。 割り子蕎麦をいただきました。以前訪れた専門の蕎麦屋さんと比較するのは酷だと思いますが、お味はごく普通。お値段もその分良心的です。 むしろ、お茶するのに適したお店と思いました。

When they take your order, they grind the beans in a manner that prevents oxidation, and painstakingly prepare the dripped coffee with a paper filter. The owner of this popular shop is a barista and patissier. Snacks including their popular Panini are also very delicious. Eight minutes by car from JR Matsue Station.

    The sweet smelling second-floor salon of Patisserie Cuire offers a café menu and light fare, in addition to cakes. Their most popular cakes are the chef’s specialty and their tarts, which both use seasonal ingredients. The strawberry tart made with their own dough, combined with raspberry sauce and topped with plenty of Amao strawberries, is sweet and tart in perfect balance. It is eight minutes by car from JR Matsue Station.

    生菓子から焼き菓子まで色々あるので、お土産使いに重宝してます。お気に入りは一口サイズのマドレーヌ。色々な味があり、ちょっと摘むのに最適です。

    Gallery Kokufu and Cafe Dori are located in a refurbished traditional thatched roof house built over 160 years ago. In the old-fashioned atmosphere, you can try café experience and the other activities like pottery, cooking, and dyeing. They also hold various exhibits and other events using part of the thatched building and the storehouse. It is closed from January to February every year.

    Kamedayama Tea Room is a café on the first floor of the retro Western-style building called “Kounkaku,” built in the outer area of Matsue Castle during the Meiji period. It features freshly brewed coffee, handmade sweets, and light fare. Constructed to lodge the Emperor Meiji on his Imperial visit, Imperial Prince Yoshihito, who would later become the Emperor Taisho, also stayed in 1907. You can pass a leisurely time here while admiring Kounkaku’s graceful decor. It is 10 minutes by car from Matsue Nishi Interchange on the San’in Expressway.

    多分初めてだと思うけど茶がゆを食べに伺いました。こちらの店も前から知っていたけど入店は初めてでした。茶がゆセットはモーニングメニューで９時から１１時までの注文らしいです。お茶の店がしているカフェみたいですからセットの昆布茶を抹茶にした方が良かったかなあと思いました。
