This is an art museum on Prefectural Route 319 in Yuyama, Fukubecho, Tottori City where sand sculptures, sculptures carved from sand, are exhibited. Sculptures are produced and exhibited on differing themes each year under the concept of travel around the world in sand, such as “Renaissance in Italy” and “World Heritages in Asia”. The displays can only be appreciated during the exhibition as when the exhibition has finished the sculptures turn back into sand.

The sand sculptures are said to be changed once a year. When I went there, they were doing an Egyptian exhibition. The process of making the sculptures was well described, and it was wonderful to see...

This museum, located in a corner of Kyushou Park, conveys the nature and culture of Tottori. It exhibits material on the history of Tottori prefecture such as documents on the sand dunes and clan documents.

常設展示では鳥取の歴史がよくわかり、カフェもついていてよい感じです。鳥取城と仁風閣のすぐ近くなので一緒にまわるのがおすすめ。とてもリフレッシュできました。車は県庁北側に無料駐車場があって便利です。

The Tottori Folk Crafts Museum was established with the aim of showcasing the way folk crafts have been able to make everyday objects both practical and beautiful; the Museum has around 6,000 folk craft artifacts on display, both from Japan and overseas. The Museum is housed in a visually-striking building that was designed with great attention to detail by Yoshida Shoya; with its plaster-on-clay external walls, it resembles a traditional Japanese storehouse.

The Ochidani district of Tottori City has several temples that were associated with the lords that ruled the Tottori domain in times gone by. The Tottori City History Museum (Yamabikokan), which is located in a corner of the Ouchidani District, provides an introduction to the history and culture of the Tottori region. Besides the permanent exhibitions, the Museum also holds thematic exhibitions and special exhibitions relating to Tottori. In early summer, the Museum is open in the evenings on certain days so that visitors can view fireflies in the Museum grounds.

公営の博物館なので入館料も安いです。高校生以下や70歳以上などは無料なので子供と一緒だとちょっとお得です。また企画展示も行われていることがあり、その際もセット（企画展と常設展示）でも料金は安いです。興味のある企画展示の時を狙っていくのもいいです。

Tottori Tottori-shi Mochigasecho Befu 32-1

A large wooden building modeled after Kyoto's Kinkakuji Temple, a world heritage site. It's permanent exhibit features about 1,000 dolls, including Hina Ningyo dolls from the Edo period when the art form flourished, decorations for Hina-matsuri, Kamo Ningyo dolls, and Gosho Ningyo dolls. Mochigase-nagashibina ceremony takes place at Mochigase-cho on the third of March on the lunar calendar. Participants pray for good health and to avoid misfortune by setting special Hina dolls adrift. It's been designated a Prefectural Intangible Folk Cultural Property. They also hold workshops in making the paper dolls, and you can bring them home with you when you finish. You can write a wish on special charms and save them for the next ceremony too.

まず、重厚な木造建築の建物があまりにも立派なことに驚かされました。館内には江戸時代からのお雛様が展示されていて、それぞれが形や表情に違いがあり、見ごたえたっぷりでした。館内にある庭園を眺めながら食事ができる喫茶もおすすめです。

広くはありませんが窓が大きく開放的で味も結構いけます。カレーが有名な鳥取だけありカレーのお味がとても印象的でした。子供がお代わりを欲しいと言ったほどです。

Tottori Yazu-gun Yazucho Nishidani 564-1

A park featuring bamboo groves with sasa bamboo and over 200 unusual bamboo varieties, both native and introduced. One of Japan's leading bamboo plantations, it's a great spot for wandering among the groves with the pale green light filtering through. It's Yazupoppo Yazu mini-SL Museum has a display of a mini steam train, and the Yuzu Garden Cafe with its excellent curry is great for a bite to eat. The park also has barbecue facilities, a campground, bungalows, and other amenities where you can enjoy the great outdoors with friends and family.

森林公園だけあって、鳥取市からかなり山奥に入ったところにありますが、道中は概ね二車線道路が整備されておりスムーズに到着しました。キャンプ場は全体的にキレイで、管理人の方の対応も親切です。当日泊まったバンガローも快適でしたが、雨だったので次は晴れた日に星を眺めてみたいですね。

"Shikano Castle Site Park, which is located around 20 minutes' drive from the Tottori Nishi Interchange of the Tottori Expressway, was formerly the site of a castle built during the Sengoku (Warring States) period (1467-1615) that was the residence of Kamei Korenori. Vestiges of the original castle can still be seen, including the Inner Moat and Outer Moat, which are filled with water, and parts of the stone walls. There are around 500 Yoshino Cherry trees in the park, and it is a famous spot for viewing cherry blossom in the spring. ""Shikano Cherry Blossom Festival"" is held in early April every year, to coincide with the period when the cherry trees are in bloom; during the festival, the cherry trees are illuminated in the evenings. The reflection of the illuminated cherry blossom in the water of the moats at night creates a truly magical effect that visitors find almost overwhelmingly beautiful."

Mikaen is a “pick-your-own-pears” tourist farm located on San’in Road in Yuyama, Fukube Town, Tottori City. During the pear season, which extends from roughly August to November, visitors can eat as many pears as they are able to pick within one hour; they can also pay to take any surplus pears home with them.

This is an urban park built around the Tottori Castle ruins, famous for Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s starvation tactics. At the summit of Mt. Kyusho there are ruins of the tower and outer citadel, keeping the appearance of a mountain castle. At the base is Kyusho-koen Park, where there are many sights such as the Jinpu-kaku Mansion and a prefectural museum. Selected as one of Japan’s top 100 cherry blossom spots, there are approximately 240 cherry blossoms including the Yoshino cherry variety and in spring the area is teeming with stalls and cherry blossom viewers.

Tottori Yazu-gun Yazucho Nishidani Funaoka Takebayashi Park

The first mini steam locomotive museum in Japan, where 18 steam locomotives (SL) are on display at Funaoka Chikurin Park (which has one of the country's leading bamboo groves). Actually powered by burning coal, all of the mini SLs are handmade. The trains change every weekend and run through the seasonal garden in the park. The various models will excite train enthusiasts, including a D51 type steam locomotive (a leading model of the former Japanese National Railways), a superheated steam tank locomotive C21, and a classic British steam train called Royal Scot Class by the former London, Midland and Scottish Railway .

展示は、一部屋だけで、小さい子が乗れる列車が、あるだけです。京都鉄道博物館を見てるだけに、いまいちでした。ミニのSLの模型だけでなく、買えるSLもたくさん置いて欲しいです。紙のSLが500円でした。

This is a national park consisting of approximately 75 kilometers of coastline from Kyotango City in Kyoto Prefecture to Tottori City in Tottori Prefecture. BIRD Theatre is located around 30 minutes' drive from the Tottori Nishi Interchange of the San-In Expressway; it is the base for BIRD Theatre Company Tottori, which was founded by Tottori-born director Nakashima Makoto, and which transformed an abandoned elementary school and kindergarten in the Shikano-cho district of Tottori City into a theatre. Besides creating new theatrical works and presenting them at the theatre, BIRD Theatre Company Tottori also collaborates with leading Japanese and international theatre troupes, dancers and musicians to provide high-quality stage performances. A paragliding school where guests can experience the thrill of paragliding over the Tottori Sand Dunes, one of Japan’s best national parks. The Tottori Sand Dunes is a wide expanse of sandy dunes with nothing in the way making it a perfect place for beginners to safely have a go at paragliding. Children from as young as three years old to elderly people are welcome. Popular choices include the half-day paragliding course and the tandem course (with instructor). This is a museum for songs and toys called “Warabekan”. The first floor is for Japanese nursery rhymes and the second and third floors are for toys. On the first floor, visitors can enjoy an exhibition of musicians from Tottori Prefecture and sing nursery rhymes and animation songs in the karaoke corner. On the second and third floors visitors can play with toys from around the word in “the world of toys” and in the toy factory visitors can make toys. It is a facility that both adults and children can engage in playing with toys.

Sandboarding is a new sport that takes place in the Tottori Sand Dunes, with boarders sliding down the 30-degree slopes of the sand-dunes towards the Sea of Japan.
