- Wakayama Pref. Tanabeshi Honguchouhongu
- This Shinto shrine is one of the Three Head Kumano Shrines which serve as the headquarters of all Kumano shrines nationwide. Known as the first stop on the penance-filled Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage, since ancient times this shrine has been visited by countless worshipers of the Kumano faith, which seeks to achieve self-enlightenment through penance. The main building was erected in the Asuka period and was relocated to its current location after being damaged in the Great Flood of 1889. After climbing 158 stone steps through a cedar forest, the shrine’s four hinoki bark-thatched buildings will appear, which enshrine Ketsumiko no okami and the shrine’s three other chief gods.

- A public municipal park located across the Arida River from Minoshima Station on the Kii Main Line. The park was created in 1950 by Toyomatsu Norioka to honor the souls of all the innocent, non-military persons who died during the battles of the Pacific War. In 1967, it was gifted to the city and turned into a public park. Numerous cherries, azaleas, and other attractive trees and plants grow on the park’s 5,186 square meter grounds. Today, the park is renowned in spring for its beautiful blossoming cherry trees, known locally as the “Muen-san no Sakura” (“Cherry Trees of the Innocent”). The top of the park’s mountain commands a view of the mouth of the Arida River and the beach of Hatsushima, famous Shikoku destinations. Buddhist memorial services are held in the park in spring and summer which attract many visitors.

- This roadside station on National Route 371 features an extended building reminiscent of a dragon's body. Forestry is Ryujin Village's main industry. As you enter the facility, you're welcomed by enormous pillars made from 350-plus year old southern Japanese hemlock, and local wood is used throughout the building. The sales area is replete with wooden products including tables and chairs, and the restaurant overlooking the Hidaka River serves coffee brewed with spring water. They don’t mind if you bring lunch with you to the facility.

- This ancient pilgrimage route, also called the Kumano Sankeido, visits the Three Head Kumano Shrines—the Kumano Hongu Taisha Shrine, Kumano Hayatama Taisha Shrine, and Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine. Starting in ancient times, the Kumano faith grew strong throughout the centuries, and countless people of all classes, from emperors and nobles to samurai and commoners have traveled this pilgrimage route. Due to the heavy rains in the area, the route’s stone paving still remains exposed in some areas, such as Daimon-zaka. A nationally designated Historic Site, a portion is also registered a World Heritage Site as part of the Sacred Sites and Pilgrimage Routes in the Kii Mountain Range.

- This roadside station on National Route 480 is about a 15-minute drive from the Arida Interchange. The station’s name derives from the prominent Kegon Buddhist priest Myoe syonin of the Kegon school’s Kankiji Temple who was born in Aridagawa Town (former Kanaya-machi). Besides the array of local produce available at the Kanaya Farm Stand, they sell processed products that make perfect souvenirs like Kinzanji-miso, handmade soy sauce, and dressing. Fresh baked bread from the Furusato Bakery is made with natural yeast and pure water from the Arida River. The bread is delicious the next day, too.

- This restaurant adjoins the Sunshine business hotel, notable for its up-close view of the vast natural beauty of the Arida River and Mt. Myojin. The restaurant is just a five-minute drive from JR Kii-Miyahara Station on the opposite side of the river. The restaurant’s name means “Ayu Tea House,” and as this implies, the establishment takes pride in its ayu cuisine and other dishes made with fish varieties like largehead hairtail (caught in larger quantities here than anywhere else in Japan), and wild longtooth grouper caught in the Kii Channel. Particularly notable is the restaurant’s largehead hairtail rice bowls and oju lacquered boxes, original recipe dishes only a few servings of which are offered each day. Other menu selections, like the wild longtooth grouper hot pot set and kaiseki course cuisine, give diners the chance to fully savor the flavors of the Kii Channel.

- Accommodations / Hot Spring
- Wakayama Pref. Tanabeshi Honguchouyunomine 110
- A public bathhouse located in the almost exact center of the Yunomine hot spring district through which passes the Kumano Highway. This unusual hot spring is also registered as part of the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes World Heritage Site as it is used by pilgrims to ritually purify them. The bathhouse’ bath is quite simple in construction, consisting of a natural stone bathing tub and wood board walls. Only around two to three people can enter at a time; there is no separate men’s or women’s bath. The rules for usage of the bath are as follows: Bathers get a numbered ticket at the entrance to the hot spring district and, when their number comes up, may bathe in the tub for 30 minutes before they must leave and the next group of bathers is allowed to enter. The nice thing about this system is that during their time, a group has the bath all to themselves. As the waters of the tub naturally change color several times throughout the day, the bath is known as a “seven colored bath.” The legend of Oguri Hangan is also connected to the bath.

- "This roadside station on National Route 311 is easily recognizable as the building looks like a big bamboo hanagasa hat. As it faces the Kumano Kodo's Nakahechi Trail, people walking the ancient pilgrimage route stop in for a rest as well those traveling by car. The shop sells a popular item called ""konnyaku inari,"" sushi rice tucked in a slightly spicy konnyaku gelatin pocket, as well as jabara citrus juice and candies that have been featured on television. Their restaurant's ume plum buckwheat soba noodles come recommended."

There are tables inside and outside. There is a good selection of snacks and lunch foods for travellers. The coffee was cheap and not too bad. Well worth a stop.
