- Wakayama Kainan-shi Kuroe 692
- This venerable Kuroe lacquerware wholesaler has been in business for more 140 years since first opening in 1877. It is located on Kawabata Street in Kainan City's Kuroe District. The more than 200-year-old shop building is a registered national tangible cultural asset. In addition to Kishu lacquerware, the shop also sells a wide variety of other traditional Japanese handicrafts including magewappa (a form of traditional Japanese steam bending woodcraft), bamboowork, and Koshu-inden (lacquered deer leather) all at wholesale prices. You can see the owner's obsession with quality in the choice products that he sources directly from manufacturers all across Japan. The owner also conducts public exhibitions in his historic home in June and November.
