A Japanese sweet shop located in the Koyasan area in Koya Town, Ito County, Wakayama Prefecture. The shop is famous for its grilled rice cakes, a favorite treat for visitors to Koyasan to eat, as well as the Miroku-ishi, a renowned sweet named after the stone of the same name found on the grounds of the Okunoin Temple. The shop’s hijiri yokan jelly is made according to an ancient treasured written recipe; this historic culinary gem was once an essential part of local Buddhist vegetarian cuisine. The shop’s display shelves are also filled with a variety of other sweets popular among visitors to the area, including monaka bean jam filled wafers and senbei rice crackers branded with the local mascot character Koya-kun.

You can choose between several sweets; the price is correct (you spend almost 110/150 yen each one) and there is a beautiful space where you can eat them. NB:you can freely drink water, hot tea or...

    Wakayama Pref. Itogunkudoyamachou Kudoyama 1404
You’ll find this soba restaurant near the “Yukimuraan Temple” named after Sengoku general Sanada Yukimura. It is located inside of a renovated old home, giving it a very intriguing ambience. This famous shop serves “Kishu Kudoyama Sanada soba” made from Shinshu soba powder. There’s also “zaru soba” (soba served on a bamboo sieve with dipping sauce) that uses Nihachi-soba (20 percent wheat flour and 80 percent buckwheat flour) served with a rich broth that goes down well. Sanada’s family crest is carved into the walls, and the menu include options such as “Yukimura gozen (set meal)” and “Daisuke gozen.” The nearest station is Kudoyama Station.

Complete your wander around tranquil and historic Kudoyama with a bowl of Komuraans speciality soba. Wonderfully atmospheric, adjacent to the quiet Zenyoshoin-ji. A complete contrast to the...

This shop specializing in persimmon leaf sushi is just a little south of Sanada-an and the Sanada Burial Mound. It's been featured in the media on many occasions. Kudoyama-cho is a famous persimmon growing area, and persimmon leaf sushi was first created in the region of the upper Kinokawa River. They sell three kinds: mackerel, salmon, and shiitake mushroom. You need to place orders for the salmon and shiitake mushroom varieties at least a day in advance. They serve saketoba salmon jerky and stewed salmon as well, dishes that go great with rice and beer. They hold workshops four days a week. The shop opens at 8:00 in the morning closes as soon as they are sold out.

Traditional “KAKI leaf-sushi” of this shop is my favorite one. Shop is really tiny. But I am sure that this shop is popular. Sushi itself is Simple but tasty. Shimesaba (marinade cut mackerel...

This cafe is located on National Route 480 heading from JR Kaseda Station to Mt. Koya. It boasts a menu featuring items made entirely with ingredients sourced locally in Wakayama. Their specialty is their omelette rice, which is made with a homemade tomato sauce. The rice contains konnyaku (yam cake), the cafe's namesake, which and gives the dish a unique mouthfeel when combined with the fluffy eggs on top. The cafe also offers coffee and cake sets. Its outdoor terrace seats offer guests a view of Mt. Koya and the persimmon orchards built on its slopes. The cafe makes a convenient rest stop while sightseeing by car.

We had a family business in Mt. Koya. On our way back from Mt. Koya, we dropped in at a small farmers market, Konnyaku-no-sato, where we bought some good vegetables at low prices. As it was lunch...

Wakayama Iwade-shi Nakajima 813-1 Green Plaza Nakajima 2
This cafe specializing in Belgian waffles and chocolate is located about a 15-minute drive from JR Iwade Station. Their Liege-style waffles, which are made with lots of butter and without egg whites, are notable for their moistness and fluffy texture. Meanwhile, their Brussels-style waffles have a notably crispy texture. Meringue is mixed into the batter right before each Brussels-style waffle is cooked to order. The cafe also offers many items that pair their waffles with Belgian chocolate.

  • Natural Foods Store Shion

    Wakayama Kinokawa Kishigawacho Kodo 802
This natural foods store is located in front of Kishi Station on the Wakayama Electric Railway Kishigawa Line. It offers additive-free foods made with organic fruits and vegetables grown in the rich natural environment of Wakayama, healthy handmade bento boxes, and other handcrafted products. We especially recommend their strawberry confiture, a jam which preserves the rich flavor and refined sweetness and fragrance of Marihime strawberries, an original cultivar of Wakayama. The shop's attached cafe, which offers a selection of daily lunches, mini desserts, natural beverages, and other items, is a great place to relax while waiting for a train.

    Wakayama Kinokawa Kishigawacho Maeda 166
This farmer's market is located a seven-minute walk from Kishi Station on the Wakayama Electric Railway Kishigawa Line. It carries a full selection of fruits and vegetables from local producers as well as processed products. The market offers fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables all year long, whether it's a diverse selection of strawberries from January to early May or brand-name peaches such as Arakawa no Momo and Takatsu no Momo from late June to mid-August. Other products include flowers and fresh fish shipped straight from ports across the prefecture. The Hachijuhachiya restaurant located on the premises offers a buffet featuring food made with produce from the market. The restaurant's freshly-baked bread, which is made in-house, is also popular.
  • Nakamura Kakinoha Sushi Honpo

    Wakayama Kinokawa Kokawa 73
This restaurant specializes in Kakinoha-sushi (persimmon leaf sushi), a regional dish of northern Wakayama Prefecture. It is located a five-minute walk from JR Kokawa Station or a 30-minute drive from the Sennan Interchange on the Hanwa Expressway along Prefectural Route 63. Each piece is carefully handmade one at a time without the use of preservatives or additives. Their classic kakinoha-sushi features mackerel on sushi rice made with a secret blend of vinegar wrapped up in a persimmon leaf. We also recommend their jako-sushi (dried young sardines sushi), a dish unique to this area. Another popular offering is their ayu-sushi (sweetfish sushi), which features a whole sweetfish served on sushi rice.
  • Cake TERU
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Wakayama Hashimoto-shi Sudacho Kamihyogo 280-1
"This shop offering natural sweets made with choice ingredients is located next to the Hashimoto-higashi Interchange on the Keinawa Expressway. The shop, which has a basic concept of ""easy on the body,"" makes its sweets with Suzuran eggs, a heritage egg of Hashimoto, Yotsuba butter, rock candy, and an original wheat blend. The shop forgoes the use of oxygen absorbers in its packaging to assure that the flavor of its teru, galletes, and other baked sweets is not adversely affected. We especially recommend their line of Kouya sweets, which includes financier cakes made with plenty of persimmon, mandarin orange, and plum, the three main specialties of Kishu."

    Wakayama Hashimoto-shi Nishihata 489-1
This cafe is located a 15-minute drive from Hashimoto Station on the JR Wakayama Line and the Nankai Koya Line or from Hashimoto Interchange on the Keinawa Expressway. The open cafe is situated on a 300 meter-high elevated spot overlooking Hashimoto City. Its centerpieces are its brick oven and its traditional sunken hearth. There is an amusing mismatch between the cafe's western-style exterior and cuisine and its quintessentially Japanese-style interior. The pizzas baked in the cafe's brick oven are chewy on the inside and crispy and fragrant on the outside. We also recommend their brick oven grilled spring chicken, with its crispy skin and juicy meat, as well as their brick oven baked red snapper in salt crust, which is cooked and served whole (These items must be ordered in advance.).

    車の運転初級者ではなかなかたどり着けない場所にありました。何より駐車の場所があまりないので予約は必須です。ピザは薄皮のパリパリで美味しかったですが、一枚ずつ焼いてるようで?時間はかかりました。
