    Wakayama Higashimuro-gun Nachikatsuuracho Katsuura
    The boarding location for this tour boat is located approximately a five-minute walk from the JR Kii-Katsuura Station. It visits the unusual rock formations scattered outside Katsuura Port. The name, Kinomatsushima, refers to the beauty of the location, which is comparable to that of Matsushima, one of the three most scenic spots in Japan. Customers can board two types of tour boat and visit around the unusual shaped islands such as the Camel rock which has the camel-like hump as the name suggests, the Lion Island with green bushes on the top which looks like mane of a lion , the Cave of Tsurushima Island, the Yamanari Island where Taira no Koremori is said to have drowned himself. The course of the tour boats may change depending on the season and weather.

    I was snapping photos, hoping some came out while shooting into the sun, but the landscape was outstanding.

    Engetsu Island, officially named “Takashima” and locally seen as a symbol of Shirahama, is a small island floating off Rinkaiura Beach. The island is 130 meters long north to south, 35 meters east to west, and is 25 meters tall at its highest point. The island has come to be known as Engetsu, meaning “full moon,” due to the round, full moon-like hole in the center of the island which has formed due to marine erosion. Also a well-known the beauty of its sunset, the island as been selected as having one of the 100 best sunsets in Wakayama Prefecture. Sunset occurs around 6:30 pm in summer and 4:30 pm in winter. During the spring and autumn equinox, visitors can enjoy the site of the setting sun passing perfectly through the island’s hole.

    The general name for the four islands, Jinoshima, Torajima, Kamishima, and Okinoshima, between Wakayama Prefecture and Awajishima Island. On the uninhabited Okinoshima there are the remains of numerous forts giving it a look similar to the animated movie “Laputa: Castle in the Sky.” The azure sea surrounding the islands is beautiful and the walking course is popular.

    "This small island can be seen right in front of Lover's Cape, known as one of the Eight Beautiful Views of Susami. Here visitors can view a spectacular natural phenomenon in which ocean waves, divided in two by the island, come crashing together again on the other side as they flow in towards Lover's Cape. Called the ""Worshipping Waves"" and the ""Husband and Wife Waves,"" this spectacular sight is one of the Kareki Sea's most beautiful and most well-known."

    This small island is situated southwest of Lover's Cape, one of the Eight Beautiful Views of Susami. The island has a cave which continues under the sea, and from March to the end of April, and from late June to the end of October, scuba diving can be enjoyed here. Records state the island once served as a base for the Kumano Navy and legend has it that the navy's treasure is hidden somewhere on or under the island.

    "Located approximately one kilometer off the coastal mouth of the Kozagawa River, this island covered with Machilus thunbergii trees of the laurel family. It is said that this island was once a hub for the Kumano Navy that fought in the Genpei battles. In recent years, the Obon season draws beach swimmers and canoeing and kayaking visitors. It is also known as the site for shooting the variety show Ikinari! Ogon Densetsu, where the television character Yoiko lived on this uninhabited island. This island is one of the cultural properties which compose ""Living with whales"", designated as Japan Heritage by Agency of Cultural Affairs."

    This swimming beach is located on an uninhabited island in the Kii Channel. The island can be reached via a ferry which leaves from Hatsushima Fishing Port. The beach is 500-meters-long and its waters are extremely clear. The beach has toilets and showers are available from inns near the fishing port. Also, rare for a beach, barbecuing and camping are allowed on the shore. Equipment rentals are available, meaning you don't even have to bring anything yourself. You can also rent fishing gear and the beach is a place where you can experience and out-of-the-ordinary time surrounded by natural beauty.
