This museum uses written and other materials to present the achievements of Kumagusu Minakata, natural historian and folklorist from Wakayama Prefecture. The museum displays over 700 items, including his beloved glasses, research equipment, and samples of plants collected overseas. There is also an exhibit where visitors can view via microscope the slime mold Minakata gave a lecture on to Emperor Hirohito. Located on the tip of a peninsula, the 360-degree panoramic view from the museum’s roof is stunning. (Note: The museum is currently closes for construction. The main and new buildings are scheduled to open March 19, 2017.)

It displays a variety of poetry collections, novels, and essays by the modern Japanese poet and writer Sato Haruo. Active from the end of the Meiji period to the Showa period, he was known for his poem “May Nostalgia."" The building itself was Haruo Sato's Tokyo home. It was moved to his native Shingu City as is in 1989. Exhibitions are held in his study, and recordings of the author reading his own poetry play as you enter the building."

    Wakayama Higashimuro-gun Kushimotocho Kashino 1033
The museum is located on the eastern edge of Kii Oshima Island. 62 years before the arrival of Perry's black ships, in 1791 (Kansei 3), two American merchant ships, the Lady Washington and the Grace, landed on Oshima. The museum exhibits dioramas, photographs, and models of the ships that illustrate this event.

Surprisingly, it was very interesting. Everything is in English too. Very much worth the visit. The BEST view in the whole area is from behind that museum. It does not seems like many people go...

This memorial hall is located on Sanada Street, a shopping street in Kudoyama Town. It showcases the achievements of Tsunejiro Matsuyama, a native Kudoyama businessman and politician. The hall occupies his renovated family home and maintains the atmosphere of the Taisho Period (1912–1926) with its Shikoro-zukuri architecture, rarely found today. Besides displays of his possessions and various documents, there are many superb paintings by the master artist Ikuo Hirayama, whose wife was Tsunejiro's oldest daughter Michiko. You'll need reservations if you're visiting with a group.

    地元の政治家である松山常次郎の資料館ですが、平山郁夫さんの婦人の生家であり、絵を期待しましたが、絵は一枚もありませんでした。

You’ll find this Turkish memorial building in Kushimoto Town of Higashimuro County, Wakayama Prefecture. The “Ertuğrul Fırkateyni,” a wooden battle cruiser from the Ottoman Empire bearing a special envoy, sank in 1890 in the Kumano Sea, resulting in 587 deaths. Thanks to the generous rescue efforts of the locals, Japan and Turkey have enjoyed warm relations ever since. The building contains materials related to the sunken vessel as well as models, mementos from the sailors, and more. You can see the crash site from the observation deck on the second floor.

It displays the works of Eitaro Ishigaki, who was originally from Taiji Town and traveled to the United States, where he played an important role in the art world from around 1920 until the 1940's. Ayako Ishigaki, his wife and critic, contributed to the town with constructions and donations, and in addition to the oil paintings and drawings, the memorial hall also displays their most cherished belongings. There is a small hall inside, which is used for local cultural activities, lectures and study groups.

    遊覧船の時間待ちが長くたまたま立ち寄りましたが、なぜ記念館があるのかわかりません。全く個人的趣味で建てられたのでは??と思います。作品もほんの少しです。
