This garden is located on the grounds of Wakayama Castle Park. A traditional strolling garden, it is designed to make maximum use of its scenic location on a slope at the base of Mt. Torafusu and has a pond and waterfall supplied by a spring. The garden is considered one of the finest of the feudal lord gardens dating to the early Edo period. Also known as the Momijidani Teien (garden of the valley of Autumn foliage), as this nickname implies, the garden experiences stunning fall foliage, and in most years visitors can take in the sight of vivid gold and crimson leaves reflecting off the surface of the garden's pond from late November to early December. Points of interest include the Engyokaku pavilion standing on the bank of the pond; and the Ofunaishi, a boat-shaped stone in the pond's center. Visitors can also stop by the Koshoan tearoom to enjoy a cup of matcha green tea while taking in a view of the garden.
