    This is a Japanese confectionary store in the Yume-Kaze Plaza in front of the gate of the Todai-ji Temple in Kasugano Town, Nara City. The store makes sweets from locally grown ingredients such as Japanese Yamato-imo yam and Yoshino-kuzu arrowroot. A popular item is the Japanese hotcake sweet bean paste sandwich called Yamato sanzan dorayaki. They are made freshly daily with red beans, and flour and eggs from a Tokachi farm. There is also a cafe on the second floor where customers can enjoy sweets and Miwa Somen noodles.

    This cafe located in Oka of Asuka Village, Takaichi County is run from a renovated sake brewery with close to 200 years of history. They offer their Kotodama Lunch based around fresh Asuka Village vegetables which changes every other week, and sweets including cakes and shaved ice made with Asuka Village fruits. Be aware that the only meal available is the Kotodama Lunch which is limited in supply.

    A café and museum shop in the Kasugatasisha Museum in Kasugano Town, Nara City, Nara Prefecture. Here you can buy original snacks, merchandise, and illustrated books relating to the history and traditions of Kasugataisha shrine. The café space has clean, minimalist look modeled after the Kasugayama Primeval Forest. The café space’s tables, made with wood from thousand year old Japanese cedars growing on Mt. Kasuga, hint at the skills of the traditional shrine carpenters who crafted them. Based on the concept of “eternal nourishment,” the café serves items made with naturally-derived, Nara-grown ingredients with a focus on Japanese café staples such as anmitsu bean jam in syrup, matcha green tea, and pancakes.     春日大社にいくため駅からバスにのったが、そこを降りるとわりあいすぐにあった。鹿の音という名前のように鹿のソフトクリームなども販売しています。わりあい地味な感じなので、こんなところにショップがあったのだと初めてしりましたが、ちょっと休憩にはよいかも

    A coffee shop located in Yamatokoriyama City, Nara Prefecture, a city famous for goldfish, K Coffee operates out of a former gasoline stand. A phone booth with goldfish swimming in it stands outside the entrance and is a popular spot to take photos. The former gas station office is now a kitchen and sales counter where you can buy drinks such as carefully-prepared, home-roasted drip coffee in addition to coffee beans. There are benches and chairs in front of the café where customers can enjoy their drinks.

    This tea garden in Takabatake Town, Nara City, is located in western-style painter Nakamura Kazuo’s old garden which has been opened to the public, across the street from the former residence of Shiga Naoya. You can feel the history of the Provence, South-France style building that was built during the Taisho period as you sit on the terrace and look at the over 100-year-old Himalayan Cedar tree. The earthen wall surrounding the property has been designated a Tangible Cultural Property. The shop is popular for its coffee made from locally roasted beans and hand-made cakes made with seasonal fruits.

Located in a remodeled classical styled house that exudes the taste of the former capital the shop has large windows and a relaxed atmosphere. In the rear garden you can sit on the terrace and look over Amakashi no oka hill and the site of the former Asuka Itabuki-no-miya palace. Carefully selected beans are roasted in house and the resulting hand dripped coffee is distinguished by its strong aroma and refreshing aftertaste. Along with their café menu they have a popular food menu with dishes such as Hainanese chicken rice.

    This log house café is located in front of the Japanese-style inn Kato along Prefectural Route 15, in Yoshinoyama, Yoshino Town. They have a “local vegetable lunch” made with over 25 different types of organic vegetables harvested in the morning (reservation required), and a rotating daily menu called “Yoshino Teishoku,” which includes Yamato Pork cutlets and Kakinoha-sushi. They also have a dessert menu with items such as Kuzumochi and ice cream, all of which can be eaten while enjoying the views of the seasons at an altitude of 400 meters.

For takeout they sell 15 varieties of quiche including both side-dish and dessert types, available for purchase by the piece (a whole quiche requires reservation up to two days before). They also sell lunchboxes with quiche and soup.

It was built in 1887 and was used by officer of the court Harufusa Kitabatake when he lived in a nearby residence in his later years. They serve lunch with Nara foodstuffs, sweets including shaved ice, coffee made with organic beans, all served in traditionally-made Akahada-yaki ware.

The café is inside a renovated old private house, with a distinctively large hackberry tree. It has a plentiful menu with items such as German-style pancakes cooked in a Dutch oven and packed with fillings, and Kashihara bibimbap created by arranging authentic recipes from all across Jeonju City, Korea.

With a reputation almost as stellar as that of Kyoto, Nara is a must-visit for those searching for the remains of "traditional Japan." The largely green Nara city holds the majority of the prefecture’s treasures, such as the iconic Todai-ji Temple, in which a 15-meter tall Great Buddha sits, and Nara Park, where deer flock to befriend passersby. While mountains are by no means hard to come by in this area, for hiking with a reward, head to the Kii Mountains’ Yoshino district in spring, when the hillsides put on an impressive display of white and pink cherry blossoms.
