    Soramitsu, run from a large bamboo one-story house, is a select shop which sells stylish traditional household utensils designed with care and thought. The shop holds exhibitions and workshops which bring the everyday world to life. The best way to find the shop is by walking for about 30 minutes along the approach to Kasuga Grand Shrine from the Kintetsu Nara Station on the Kintetsu Nara Line.

    Uda City's Matsuyama district has been designated a National Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings and is overflowing with natural and historic scenery. This rest facility in a gallery was created with the aim of promoting exchange between visitors and the people who live in the area. There's a cafe and restaurant on the first floor where you can take in works of art while enjoying lunch or a cup of coffee. Reservation-required concerts and lunches which include live music performances are also held here. A variety of activity classes are held on the second floor.

With a reputation almost as stellar as that of Kyoto, Nara is a must-visit for those searching for the remains of "traditional Japan." The largely green Nara city holds the majority of the prefecture’s treasures, such as the iconic Todai-ji Temple, in which a 15-meter tall Great Buddha sits, and Nara Park, where deer flock to befriend passersby. While mountains are by no means hard to come by in this area, for hiking with a reward, head to the Kii Mountains’ Yoshino district in spring, when the hillsides put on an impressive display of white and pink cherry blossoms.
