"A renowned destination for flowers worthy of its location on the ""Island of Flowers,"" this park was established by the Hyogo Prefecture in April 1998. ""Hanasajiki"" literally means ""flower theater gallery"" and is derived from a desire that visitors will stroll among the park's flowers stretching away like a carpet and find their own ""gallery seat."" Seasonal flower fields sprawl across grounds equal to four Koshien Stadiums in size. Visitors can enjoy rapeseed and Chinese violet cress flowers in spring, spider flowers and sunflowers in summer, cosmos and salvia in autumn, and hoary stock in winter. Great effort has been put into the design of the park's flower fields in order to delight the eyes of visitors."

"This park is adjacent to the Awaji Yumebutai leisure complex. Designed to be a ""leisurely garden by the sea,"" it's full of flowers and greenery and has a resort feel. The spacious grounds have a large lawn, the Yumekko Land playground with 150 types of equipment, the large Children's Forest play area, and lots of other facilities for family fun. There's also a pond where you can ride swan boats, and kids can play in the water at their ""Jyabu Jyabu Pond"" that's open from spring to fall."

I absolutely loved the 90 minutes I walked there. I did it the last day of my trip. I wished I did the first day so I would go every morning as I was staying in Westin near by.

This leisure complex is in Awaji City, Hyogo Prefecture. Designed by the architect Tadao Ando, as a whole it forms a unique, dynamic Kaiyu style, Japanese style garden with a path around a central pond. It hosted the Japan Flora 2000 international flower, gardening and landscape exhibition. The elaborate gardens feature the Hyakudan-en, a hundred stepped flower bed where guests can enjoy seasonal flowers year-round. The lookout has a view of the grounds and Akashi Kaikyo National Government Park. This factory and shop deals in snacks made with sea products. Reservations aren't required for their tours where you can watch them making octopus rice crackers from the viewing area. The shop offers about 40 varieties and there are samples available of most of them for you to try. Their thin baked Tako-usu Yaki rice crackers made with octopus, squid, and shrimp come recommended. They're flavorful, firm, and crispy. There is also a break area with free coffee.

An island located on the eastern side of the Seto Inland Sea. The island is famous for the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the world, and for the Naruto whirlpools, said to be the biggest whirlpools in the world. There's also a hot spring district with numerous bathhouses and inns where visitors can stay or enjoy a day trip at the baths. The island is known as Miketsu-kuni (a food treasure trove) known for having supplied numerous tasty foodstuffs and dishes to the Imperial court since ancient times. The castle, located on top of Mt. Mikuma (130 meters above sea level) to the south of downtown, was the base of the Awaji Province from the Sengoku period (a period of frequent warfare from the end of the 15th century to the end of the 16th century) to the Edo period (1853-1868). The castle walls, which strongly show the style of the Sengoku period, are well preserved. It is designated as a national historic site and a cultural property of the city. The present keep was built in 1928 as an observatory, and is the oldest imitation keep in Japan (currently closed to visitors). The surrounding area is maintained as a park, offering a panoramic view of the Kitan Straits, and is also known as a cherry blossom viewing spot.

This memorial park approximately 20 minutes by car from Awaji Interchange has facilities with exhibitions on the Nojima Fault that caused the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake on January 17, 1995. A portion of the fault pushed above ground during the quake, and the Nojima Fault Preservation Museum provides access to this designated Natural Monument. The Kobe Wall that survived the Kobe Air Raids and the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake has been relocated there too. Together they tell a frightful story of the horror of disasters natural and man-made. There is also a seminar house where you can listen to talks on the disaster. They have a shop and a restaurant serving local fare too.

This shrine is located in Enamishimohada, Minami Awaji City. Izanagi-no-Mikoto and Izanami-no-Mikoto are the enshrined deities. It's been honored from ancient times as the sacred place in Japanese mythology where the two deities descended to the earth and created the nation. Worshiping there is thought to aid marriage and safe delivery of children. The shrine's 21.7-meter-tall vermillion-lacquered torii gate was built in 1982. A rare pine tree beside it called the Sanko-no-Matsu has three needles in each bunch that are considered a fortune symbol.

This day-use hot spring facility is approximately a five-minute drive from the Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway's Awaji Interchange just across the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. Its simple thermal radon spring is thought to be effective for helping nerve pain, joint pain, bruises, sprains, chronic skin diseases, sensitivity to cold, and more. Their Japanese-style outdoor bath lets you soak while taking in a view of Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. Men and women can use this bath on a periodic alternating basis. They have lots of amenities too, including shampoo, rinse, makeup remover, face lotion, and hair dryers.

"A facility where visitors can watch the Japanese macaques which live in the Kashiwara Mountains on the southeast side of Awaji Island. The facility is located a 40-minute drive on National Route 28 from the Seidan-Mihara interchange on the Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway. The monkeys come down from the mountains each morning around 9:00 and return around 17:00. Particularly in winter when there is little food to be found in the mountains, many monkeys come here looking for something to eat, giving visitors a strong chance of being able to see some. The monkeys get along well with each other and on cold evenings visitors may be able to catch sight of them huddling together in a phenomenon locals call ""saru dango"" (""monkey dumplings""). The season for monkey watching is from December to August."

This temple is located about five minutes by car from Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway's Higashiura Interchange. Belonging to the Omuro school of Shingon sect of Buddhism, the temple is the 59th stop on the Awaji Shikoku Pilgrimage. Its famous reinforced concrete main hall, Mizumido, was designed by Tadao Ando. The pond features floating water lilies and oga hasu, an ancient variety cultivated about 2,000 years ago.

Dedicated to the same goddess as Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima island of Aki (Hiroshima)-Ichikishimahime-no-Mikoto. During the period when the syncretism of Buddhism and Shintoism flourished in Japan, this goddess was seen as another aspect of Benzaiten, and as such the shrine is also known as the ""Awaji Island Benzaiten."" Known to locals as ""Benten-san,"" during the shrine's fall festival, called the Benzaiten Festival, festival stalls open up all along the surrounding streets, and the area bustles with visitors. The ""Goshinko"" deity transference ceremony conducted on the final day of the festival is considered one of Japan's top ""unusual"" festival rituals."
