This Buddhist temple is in Nakayamadera Temple, Takarazuka City. Built by Shotoku Taishi, it's regarded as Japan's first sanctuary dedicated to the Bodhisattva Kannon, a goddess of mercy. It's the 24th temple of 33 on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage. The principal object of worship is an image of an 11-headed Kanzeon Bodhisattva that is thought to aid women in particular. As worshiping there fulfilled Toyotomi Hideyoshi's prayers for a child, the temple attracts people seeking fertility and safe childbirth.

Easy access with escalators in most areas - which is a huge plus when travelling with elders. Gods here are famous for granting new babies. You could see the Takarazuka-Kansai plateau which is...

"This Buddhist temple in Maitani Kiyoshi, Takarazuka City was founded in 896. It was bestowed with the title of ""Japan's First Kiyoshikojin"" by Emperor Uda. Mixing Buddhist and native Shinto elements, it's primary god Kojin is known as a deity of fire, the hearth, and the kitchen. People in their unlucky years keep hibashi fire tongs thought to be blessed by Kojin as talismans during the period, and later dedicate them to the deity at the temple's Hibashi-Nojo Hall. The precincts also feature the Tessai Museum, which displays the work of the calligrapher Tessai Tomioka."

We enjoyed the walk to the temple from the station. It is lined with interesting shops and restaurants. We visited in Winter so the trees were without leaves and it was quite cold. The turtle pond...

You can reach it by taking either a Hankyu or Hanshin Bus from JR Nishinomiya Station to the Kabutoyama-Daishi Mae stop. Founded in around 828 by Emperor Junna's fourth consort Nyoini, it's also called Kabutoyama-Daishi and is known locally as ""Odaishi-san.""

Hyogo prefecture stretches from the north coast to the south coast on the western end of the popular Kansai region, encompassing verdant mountains, urban beaches, and fantastic historical sights. The prefecture’s main attractions lie along the south coast at Kobe, the prefectural capital, a pretty harbor city best known for its production of the renowned Kobe beef, and Himeji, the home of Himeji Castle, one of the country’s most beautifully preserved feudal castles, perched magically atop a hill.
