Hyogo Pref. Koubeshi Tarumi-ku Higashimaikochou - Hyogo Prefecture Awaji Iwaya
Spanning the Akashi Kaikyo Straits and connecting Kobe City to Awajishima Island, this is the world’s longest suspension bridge with a total length of 3,911 meters. Construction started in 1988 and it was completed 10 years later in 1998. The main pillars of the bridge reach a height of approximately 300 meters from the surface of the water below, and at night the suspension cables are illuminated in a variety of colors. There is also a tour available called Akashi Kaikyo Ohashi Bridge World that allows visitors to pass through the inspection passageways in the main towers, which are normally off limits, while listening to information about the bridge’s technology and history (reservation required).
  • Onaruto Bridge
    Travel / Tourism
From Hyogo ken Minami-Awaji-shi to Tokushima ken Naruto city
"This suspension bridge at the narrowest part of the Naruto Strait connects Minami-Awaji City, Hyogo Prefecture to Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture. A key transportation link for the Shikoku and Kinki regions, it is used as one of the Honshu-Shikoku connection bridges for the Kobe-Awaji-Naruto Expressway. Known as a tourist destination in Tokushima Prefecture, Uzunomichi (an approximately 450 meter promenade installed under the bridge girders) is appealing because you can see the whirling currents of Naruto under your feet and the scenery of the Naruto Strait. In addition, chosen as one of Japan's top 100 roads, the bridge appeared almost every day on an old local television program called ""Ohayo Tokushima""."
  • Venus Bridge

Hyougo Pref. Koubeshi Chuou-ku Koubekoujikata Inside the driveway again
A spiral-shaped bridge forming a figure eight over the Futatabisan Driveway on the way from the Kinsei-dai observatory to the observatory on top of Mt. Suwayama. In the evening, visitors to the bridge can enjoy a view of the Port of Kobe, Meriken Park, and the surrounding nightscape, and the structure is an extremely popular sightseeing destination due to the ease with which it can be reached and because of its excellent view. The Venus Terrace observatory is located a little further up the mountain, and the Love Lock Monument can also be found here-a popular destination for couples, sweethearts make vows of love in the name of Venus, goddess of love, writing them on a lock and snapping it onto the monument to seal their promise.

    Hyogo Kobe-shi Chuo-ku Higashikawasakicho
"A double drawbridge located on the south side of the CULMENI Kobe Culture and Information Building in Kobe Harborland. The parallelogram-type pedestrian only open bridge is located in the center of Hanekko Plaza with its benches resembling stone staircases. Originally, the city of Kobe built the bridge to accommodate boats accessing the dock at the event area, but boat traffic stopped and it went unopened for many years. The bridge now opens and closes to allow ""SPLASH"", the amphibious car to pass."

    Hyogo Tanba-shi Kaibaracho Kaibara 1
"This large Japanese zelkova tree is located a five-minute walk from Kaibara Station on the JR Fukuchiyama Line. The tree, which measures six meters around at the trunk and stands 22 meters tall, has been estimated to be upwards of one thousand years old. One of the tree's thick roots stretches across the river that flows below it, creating a natural bridge. For this reason, it is nicknamed Kinonebashi, meaning ""tree root bridge."" The tree, which has long been a symbol of the community, was designated as a Prefectural Natural Monument in 1970."

Hyogo Areas

Hyogo prefecture stretches from the north coast to the south coast on the western end of the popular Kansai region, encompassing verdant mountains, urban beaches, and fantastic historical sights. The prefecture’s main attractions lie along the south coast at Kobe, the prefectural capital, a pretty harbor city best known for its production of the renowned Kobe beef, and Himeji, the home of Himeji Castle, one of the country’s most beautifully preserved feudal castles, perched magically atop a hill.
