"This onion farm's onions are famous nationwide as Awaji Island-grown brand-name onions. The farm grows Awaji onions grown in a sedimentary layer dating back 70 million years which contains an abundance of minerals and which is said to give the onions their deliciously sweet flavor. The farm's onions, known sold as ""Mr. Narui's Perfectly Ripe Onions,"" have been featured in a variety of media and are notable for their extremely sweet flavor. The onions have a sugar content said to rival that of muskmelons and are sold like fruit by the fruit shops in the Ota Wholesale Market in Tokyo. You can also purchase these luscious onions, grown with almost no agricultural chemicals, from a direct sales shop adjoining the farm."

This farmer's market attached to the Nishiwaki Regional Wholesale Market sells freshly-harvested vegetables, process products, bread, side dishes, and more. The spacious 400-square-meter shop has earned a reputation as a place to buy fresh vegetables grown with care by local farmers at reasonable prices. The market also puts a lot of effort into researching unusual vegetables and process products in order to help customers discover new flavors. Shunkabo, the market's attached processing room, makes side dishes and process products using fresh local vegetables, Kurodasho Wagyu beef, and other local ingredients. If you time your visit right, you may even be able to buy these products freshly made.

Hyogo Areas

around-area-map

Hyogo prefecture stretches from the north coast to the south coast on the western end of the popular Kansai region, encompassing verdant mountains, urban beaches, and fantastic historical sights. The prefecture’s main attractions lie along the south coast at Kobe, the prefectural capital, a pretty harbor city best known for its production of the renowned Kobe beef, and Himeji, the home of Himeji Castle, one of the country’s most beautifully preserved feudal castles, perched magically atop a hill.
