  • Nishinomaru Garden

    This park lies outside Osaka Castle's Otemon Gate, and is a popular place for cherry blossom viewing. 300 cherry trees (mainly Yoshino cherry trees) are planted, and every spring tourists gather here to see the cherry blossoms. Even outside of the cherry blossom season, the view of the castle tower and stone walls through the trees is impressive, and many people visit to take photos of it. Also contained within the park are many scenic spots, including 13 Important Cultural Properties, such as the Senganyagura and the Enshogura. The park is said to the place where the residence of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's legal wife, Kitano Mandokoro, once stood.
  • Tomb of Emperor Nintoku

    This is a keyhole-shaped tumulus (a form of ancient Imperial grave) in Sakai Ward, Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture, and is the largest among the old burial mounds throughout the country. It can be counted as one of the world’s three largest tombs alongside King Khufu’s Pyramid and the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor and it is estimated that it was constructed over 20 years in the middle of the fifth century. Items such as swords, armor, vases, and dishes were excavated in 1872. Although according to the Imperial Household Agency it is supposed to be the tomb of the 16th Emperor Nintoku, the person actually buried has not been specified, and in recent years the name “Daisen Burial Mound” is used. There is a circuit path in the surroundings which takes about an hour to walk.

    A temple of the Buzan-ha sect of Shingon Buddhism. When Sanada Maru, a small fort of Osaka Castle, was built there was a tree that the locals believed to be sacred. Sanada Yukimura also prayed to this tree by stabbing it with sickle and that winter he had a great victory during the winter campaign of the siege of Osaka. It is believed that after his victory Sanada Yukimura then erected this small shrine. This temple is famous as Osaka's foremost temple and worshippers who visit to pray stick sickles into the tree. Photography is not prohibited on the premises.

    境内の榎の霊木に鎌を打付けて祈念するそうで、撮影禁止となっている境内には、その榎が立っていました。 現在は、真言宗豊山派の寺院となっており狭い境内ながら、悪縁を断つ為に訪れる参拝者は多いようでした。

    This kofun keyhole-shaped burial mound is located in 3-Chome Oda, Ibaraki City. The massive tumulus is 226 meters long and is believed to have been constructed in the fifth century. The tomb is managed by the Imperial Household Agency as that of Emperor Keitai, Japan's 26th emperor, but there are also those who say the tomb of Emperor Keitai is actually Imashirozuka Ancient Tomb in Takatsuki City.

    "This historic landmark is situated on the Daido-suji in Nishi, Kaino-cho, Sakai Ward, Sakai City. The site of the birth home of Akiko Yosano, a poet from Sakai famous for her ""Midaregami"" poetry collection, a monument on the site is inscribed with one of her poems, which reads, ""Missing the ocean / Counting / The distant peals of the tides / I become a little girl / My parents' home."" The surrounding area is dotted with sites connected to Yosano as well as monuments inscribed with her poems."

    This historic site is located in 1-Chome Nishi, Shukuin-cho, Sakai Ward, Sakai City. The founder of the Urasenke tea ceremony school, Sen no Rikyu was a master of the tea ceremony who served the powerful Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi. This place was the location of Sen no Rikyu's residence; the Tsubaki Well he used still stands on the site. The Sakai Plaza of Rikyu and Akiko, consisting of the Sen no Rikyu Chanoyu Museum and the Yosano Akiko Museum, is located across from the site.
  • Tomb of Kusunoki Masatsura

    This tomb is located in Kariya Minami-machi, Shijonawate City. The tomb belongs to Kusunoki Masatsura, a Nanboku-cho period military commander and eldest son of the famous samurai icon Kusunoki Masashige. Records state this is the place where Masatsura died during the Battle of Shijonawate in 1348. A camphor tree over 500 years old growing on the grounds has been designated a Natural Monument by the prefecture.

    This historic site is situated on Mido-suji Street in 3-Chome Kyutaro-machi, Chuo Ward, Osaka City. It is believed to be the location of the detached room at the residence of Hanaya Niemon where the great haiku poet Matsuo Basho died at the age of 51 in 1694 after collapsing from illness while staying in Osaka. A monument inscribed with Basho's last poem composed just before his death stands on the grounds of the Minamimido temple on the opposite side of the street.
  • Kudaraji Temple Ruins

    This site of a ruined temple adjoins Kudarao Shrine. The temple is believed to have burned down between the 11th and 12th centuries, and today only its foundations remain. The grounds in their entirety have been designated a National Special Historic Site. The ruins are one of only two Special Historic Sites in Osaka Prefecture.
