  • Kumata-jinja Shrine

    Kumata-jinja Shrine was built in 862, giving it a long and storied history. The main shrine building is designated a National Important Cultural Property, and is the oldest wooden building in Osaka City. The shrine grounds host Japan's only Renga (linked poem) space, where a Renga meeting is held every month. They also run an Internet Renga on the shrine's web page. The Hirano Danjiri Matsuri, one of Osaka's grandest festivals, is a must-see. The festival is held for four days from July 11th to the 14th every year. They say more than 300,000 spectators come every year. Held along the Hirano River east of JR Hirano Station, the festival days see nine large Danjiri floats carried to the shrines main Daimon Gate in a magnificent spectacle.

    This is the only bicycle museum in Japan, located approximately six minutes' walk from the JR Hanwa Line's Mozu Station. Here, visitors can learn about the history of the development of bicycles from around 300 actual bicycles (including replicas) and from books on the subject. In the Bicycle Plaza, located in Daisen Park, next to the museum, you can try riding replicas of 1800s bicycles, and there is also a bicycle-riding class for people who cannot ride a bicycle.

    This museum is on the Osaka University of Arts campus. This museum displays over 4,000 pieces of art and craft work from in- and outside of Japan in regular and special exhibits. They have a collection of gramophones from early 19th century models to the middle of the 20th century, as well as a collection of photography by Henri Cartier-Bresson, one of only four in the world. Originally founded in 1981 as the Osaka University of Arts Tsukamoto Hideyo Memorial Museum and Arts Information Center, the materials it gathered were eventually opened for viewing in 2002 to allow wider access to society.

    A culture complex located in Ichibahigashi 1-Chome, Izumisano City. Facilities include a 1,400 seat large hall used for concerts, opera performances, plays, and lectures; a small hall; multipurpose space; gallery; reception hall; special conference room; large, medium, and small conference rooms and Japanese rooms; tea room, and practice rooms. In the adjoining Restaurant Izuminomori, you can enjoy a delicious meal along with gorgeous scenery. The facility also offers a variety of plans for parties held in the reception hall.
  • Osaka Exchange

    A financial products exchange center located in Kitahama 1-Chome, Chuo Ward, Osaka City. The exchange started out in the Edo period as the Yodoya rice market, considered the birthplace of securities trading in Japan. The current building was erected in 1935, and visitors may freely view its beautiful stained glass atrium and the OSE Gallery located on the fifth floor. The exchange also offers guided tours for groups of 10 or more people (advance reservation required).

    An event hall adjoining Hotel Mielparque Osaka a four-minute walk from Shin-Osaka Station in Miyahara 4-Chome, Yodogawa Ward, Osaka City. The multipurpose event hall is outfitted with audio equipment and can seat 1,010 people, and is used for a variety of purposes, including concerts, plays, ballet performances, and lectures.
  • Eifuku-ji Temple (Tomb of Prince Shotoku)

    A Buddhist temple located in Taishi, Taishi Town, Minamikawachi County, Osaka Prefecture. The temple was established to protect the mausoleum where Prince Shotoku; his mother, Princess Anahobe Hashihito; and his wife Kashiwabe no Oiratsume are buried. The temple died out temporarily during the Warring States period but was restored in the Edo period after the Syoryoden was rebuilt by Toyotomi Hideyori. The Eifuku-ji Daijyoeshiki ceremony, also known as the Taishi Mairi, is held each year on Aril 11th and 12th.

    This shrine is right next to Shitennouji-mae Yuhigaoka Station on the Osaka Tanimachi Subway Line. Yasui-jinja Shrine is also known as Yasui Tenmangu Shrine. It is unknown when it was founded, but it is referenced in the Creation of the country by Okuninushi as a shrine dedicated to Sukunahikona no Mikoto. Legend has it that Sugawara Michizane stayed at this shrine before he boarded the boat when he was sent to Dazaifu in Fukuoka. It is also the resting place of Sanada Yukimura after his defeat at the siege of Osaka by the Tokugawa army in 1615 where he was discovered by enemy forces and killed.
  • Naniwa no Miya Palace Ruins (Naniwa no Miya Ato Park)

    Located a five-minute walk from Morinomiya Station on the JR Osaka Loop Line, this historical park spans across the Hoenzaka area. According to an excavation conducted by Tokutaro Yamane, a professor at Osaka City University, these are the discovered ruins of the Naniwa no Miya Palace whose location remained unknown although there were records. The area is approx. 90,000 square meters, and has been designated as a historic site, and the excavation and restoration of buildings that once existed there is underway. You can see breathtaking views of Osaka Castle from the Daigokuden (Great Audience Hall) restored in the Showa period (1926-1989).
  • Ezaki Glico Museum

    This Ezaki Glico memorial museum is located in Utajima, Nishiyodogawa Ward. It is approximately a 16-minute walk from the JR Tokaido Main Line's Tsukamoto Station, and was built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the company's founding. The bronze Goal In Mark statue in the exhibition space on the second floor is the perfect spot to take a commemorative photo. Near the entrance of the museum, are the main products of the Glico Group, such as sweets and confectionary, and in the Glico Time Slip Photo Gallery, you can take pictures with the successive Glico signs. In this museum that can be enjoyed by both adults and children alike, there are photo booths introducing the founder, Riichi Ezaki, along with his much-loved desk and chair.
  • Enmeiji Temple

    This temple is in Nagano, on Kamigaoka Kawachinagano City, and is said to have been founded when Kukai enshrined a Jizo statue there. Later, the temple was abandoned but it was restored as Yakujuyama Enmeiji Temple during the Edo period by local son Jogon. In so doing, the main object of worship became the Nyorin Kannon, now designated an Important Cultural Property. This area is famed as an autumn leaf viewing spot, and was selected one of Osaka's Best Greenery Spots, and the 1000 year old maple Yusho Momiji is designated an Osaka Natural Monuments.
  • Settsunokuni Kokubun-ji Temple

    This is a temple located in front of the Kokubunji Park, approximately a three-minute walk from Tenjinbashi-suji 6-chome Station. The temple was built in 741 and the principal object of worship is Bhaisajyaguru. The official name of the temple is Chokugandojo gokokusan Kokubun-ji Temple, referred to as Nagara no Kokubun-ji Temple, and has been the Chokugan Dojo-seminary for the last 14 emperors. A unique feature of this temple is the serenity of the precinct in the middle of the city. It is one of the 36 Fudo Temples in the Kinki Region and on the left of the temple gate there is a stone statue of Buddha Seki Butsu no Mizu Kake Fudoson and a Minori Fudoson beneath the ginkgo tree behind the Gomado Hall.
