    Kyoto Kyoutoshi Kita-ku Murasakinominamifunaokachou 82-1
A public bath house located in Murasakino Minamifunaoka Town, Kita Ward, Kyoto City. The bath’s changing and bathing rooms are nationally registered Tangible Cultural Property. The building was once the Funaokaro, a restaurant and inn built in 1923, and the building exterior is in the traditional Japanese inn style. Visitors can enjoy Japan’s first electric bath and jacuzzi. Each day, the men’s and women’s baths switch. The bath house also has two open-air baths, one made from Kibune River stone said to change into seven different colors when wet, and another entirely made of hinoki wood. The carving of a tengu and Ushiwakamaru on the ceiling of the changing rooms is of particular note, as is the latticework on the hand railings. The bath is also adjoined by the Kyomachiya guest house.

Kyoto Areas

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
