Kyoto Kyoto-shi Nakagyo-ku Sanjodori Kawaramachi Nishi Iru
A needle specialty shop with a large signboard announcing its location on Sanjo-dori Street just off of Kawaramachi-dori Street. The store itself is just along a narrow alley. Misuyabari needles, created as if they were little katana swords, are set apart by the lack of resistance you'll feel when sewing. By adding a small angle to the tip of the needle too small to be seen with the naked eye as well as vertical streaks during the polishing process they create needles that pass through the fabric without cutting the threads. It's also fun to look at their array of needles that you wouldn't normally see including American needles, silk needles, and pongee needles.

A lovely, lovely shop for handmade needles. A single tiny needle, a work of true craftsmanship, can cost more than 12 USD, the quality is outstanding and the garden in front of the shop, which is not...

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
