    Kyoto Maizuru-shi Hama 601
This bakery is about ten minutes' walk from Higashi Maizuru Station in the relaxed atmosphere of Higashi Maizuru Shopping street. They have a huge array of products, from white bread loafs to snack breads, headed up by their Nikujaga Bun with beef, potatoes and konjac noodle, which is endorsed by the Maizuru Tourist Association. Maizuru was the location of the only Naval base on the Sea of Japan side of the country. Those sailors brought back the unforgettable flavor of the beef stew they'd eaten in the United Kingdom, and in the pursuit of that flavor this town became the home of Japan's Nikujaga, a stew of beef and potatoes flavored with soy sauce, sugar, and sesame. The Nikujaga Buns baked every morning are a local flavor you won't find anywhere else.

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
